Now that was for them to get you your CDL, correct? Because I can not find anything, even called them, about them saying a contract for 21 days of training besides the CDL school.

Ok guys. It western flatbed for next 60 days. Then goes nationwide. Call my recruiter x2020 . Tell her you live in phoenix and are in cdl school and see what she says. Im not signing it. I can get training anywhere and switch to Roehl. Since its the best deal going. But no contract then. Ok i am done . Passing on the info i was given by my school and recruiter. If your not west its not you. Yet. Be safe out there

If the added cost is for western flatbed training experience, for the first 50k miles, just join the van fleet for the first 6 months, get that experience, then move on to flats. Just a thought from a want to be driver again........maybe they won't ask you to sign that note if you have the verified van experience first... Just a wild thought ....

Hate to bring this one back up but looking for a definite answer on this one. I got sent the same not saying that I would have to pay back $3130 to Roehl unless I complete 75000 miles for them, then debt is released. I already have my CDL (did not go to Roehl CDL training) and was curious why this is in place? I plan on staying there AT LEAST one full year, but do not want to have this debt thing hanging over my head. Can any of you guys be extra clear on this one?

If you come to Roehl and already have your CDL, then there is no contract to my knowledge.

Yeah, same experience here as Scott72 -- but it would be very interesting to know for certain what's going on here. If, I say IF, a driver who already has their CDL is being told they will somehow owe $3130 to the company if they don't stay there for 75,000 miles, that would be a significant change in company policy. I'd have trouble believing this unless some additional, independent reports start surfacing.

When I attended their CDL school a couple years ago (had a great experience, btw), you had the OPTION of paying the tuition (about $3000) up-front and being under absolutely no obligation, or applying for a no-interest loan from the company for the tuition, which you would owe nothing on as long as you were employed by Roehl. After 60,000 paid miles, they would forgive 1/3 of the loan, and then after each 10,000 miles after 60,000 they would forgive 1/9 of the loan, so at 120,000 paid miles the entire loan would be forgiven. If you left the company and still had a balance on the loan, you had 30 days to pay it off interest-free, or else would have to start making monthly payments including interest, just as if you had put the tuition on a credit card, etc. in the first place. The interest rate was 18% a year, same as a typical credit card or consumer loan. All aspects of this were completely on the up-and-up.
