Owner/Operators at Roehl

There is 120 pages written on the Roehl section here call "The Good, The Bad, The honest truth of a new Roehl Lease". Please take time to read it. Be aware that the lease program has had some major changes in it and is still changing from what I hear from currently lease that I still know. I own my own truck but I left 5 months ago after 3.5 years due to low miles that did not give enough in the settlement. If you have some specific questions PM me. If you have only 1 year of driving, I would suggest that maybe you would want to give it another year before making the jump to O/O. Really see if you want to stay with Roehl and get into a business contract with them. Also let the program settle with the new changes. The only thing that changes when you lease is you now have become a business owner. Still driving a truck but with more financial responsibility.

I love it, of course I already ran a few companies before I started trucking. My business partner and I are getting ready to purchase some more trucks and lease them on with someone. He's got almost 20yrs in this industry and I have the business background.
Money wise, I've almost doubled my net per month. Ya gotta be smart about it and not get an expensive truck and watch the loads you're getting. As far as requirements, it's the standard hiring requirements for Roehl with the exception you have to have 6 months of good driving and performance or 100k miles if coming in off the street (I think it's 100k, I came from the company side). It really is a good program as long as you keep your fixed costs down. The thing I like about it is, it has a walk-away clause. If you don't like it, turn the truck back in per their guidelines and you're free to go....even back to company driver if you want. Just give it a few months before you walk away though, and remember there are always good weeks and bad ones but if you're smart and work hard you'll make money.

 

I'm not going to just bash Roehl, but I've been there and done that. First a company sponsored lease/purchase is the worst way to get a truck. You should only do it as a last resort option and be very careful if this is your route. Every company I have ever heard of that pays owners on a mileage based system also has a dispatcher that is loyal to them offering freight to your truck. This system means someone with no loyalty to your business is deciding how much business you get.

When I paid off my truck I watched my weekly revenue drop by over $700. I'm now with Landstar and still learning the system, yet I'm making more than I did with Roehl. Anyone looking at Roehl really needs to take TexasPhoenix's advice and read the thread, The Good, The Bad, The Honest Truth of a New Roehl Lease Operator. I was the last of the original participants to leave and the only one to actually complete the entire program and then take my truck and move on.

 

I've got a '13 T660, got fair price on it. I knew what it was worth before they offered it to me and told them what I would and wouldn't spend on it. My business partner and I are in the process of purchasing 3 trucks, from an outside source, so we'll see what happens from there. Prolly turn Roehl's back into them and use 1 of the ones we're buying as mine. I know how much $ I need to make, so I'm not too worried with one company paying more than others. I've been treated good here, so I'll stay until I get tired.
