Hubby is a fairly new driver and decided on Roehl b/c we heard so many good things about the company. He had a fender bender with another truck driver in a parking lot. He's reported it but hasn't heard anything yet. He is (uncharacteristically for him -- he is a very chill dude) freaked out. I think this is because 1) he's just been on a really long haul and is pretty beat 2) even though he's in his late 40s, he has never had a car accident, ever 3) he's on a rest break and has time on his hands.

Still, he's concerned he'll be fired b/c he is new. There's some damage to his trailer. No real damage to the other truck -- in fact, the other driver asked him did he want to report it?

I'd like to either reassure him or give him a heads-up. Again, he doesn't get easily rattled, but this is the first MVA he's ever had in his life.

    Any help appreciated.

Gotta know how to play the game because we all hit things but there is always a way out of it as long as it's not a catastrophe, if there was no real damage to the other truck nd the other driver asked him if he wanted to report it i would just tell him no i don't want to report it because he wanted to work with him nd when i get to the next truck stop or rest area i will park send a qualcomm message saying that im taking a nap nd later call safety to tell them i was just taking a nap anther truck hit my trailer nd left. i didn't get a name or license plate because i didn't see it.

How long ago did this happen?I don't see it as a major issue with Roehl since the other driver didn't even see any real reason to report it.What he can do is offer to pay for it himself so it stays off his record and Roehl won't need to report it to their insurance company.

I'll have to agree with you there. One time while backing in a tight dock.I hit a trk and left a knick in the fender but we both felt it wasn't worth reporting so I gave her $80.00.She had a brand new trk too.

I wouldn't lie to Roehl but I would tell the other driver I didn't want to report it. That is the same as him saying there was no damage to his truck. Take a picture of both trucks and call your supervisor. Tell him what happened and that there was no damage/insurance claim to the other guys truck. Plenty of trailers have minor cosmetic damage and are rolling down the road. As long as it is safe and can pass a DOT inspection your supervisor may not even send it up the line to safety. Its just more paperwork for him

    what he said.

Fortunately I've never been on the giving end but have been on the receiving end.

Guy backed into my brand new truck couple years ago late night trying to get into a tight spot. I had just laid down but not quite asleep. Just cracked the headlight lense, nothing major. By the time I got up he was already walking around to my door to talk to me.

He apologized, said it had been a long day and he was tired. We've all been there. As we shook hands and parted there was a 20 in his hand. Told him I had no idea who did that I was sleeping and by the time I got up they were driving away. No harm , no major damage and he manned up and discussed it with me and apologized and didn't drive off. No need to jam him up over it.

Reported it to safety next morning told them I never saw who did it and never heard another word about it

There are things you have to report no doubt, then there are things that can be explained away if the other party wants to work it out between the 2 of you.

Thank you to all who have responded so far...comments are very helpful, and not just to me, I am sure. Quick question: I don't see a "Thank" button next to the "reply" button...how do I send thanks to someone who responds? Other than this way, of course.

If you look at the bottom of the post you want to thank its at the far left. Click on the little thumbs up. You do not have to reply to a post to thank it.

He did good reporting it to ROEHL. I have never heard of anyone fired for such a small accident, especially a first time accident. I know of plenty of large accidents where the driver was not fired.
However, having an accident, even a minor one, and not reporting it to ROEHL is defiantely grounds for termination.
Chances of him getting fired for a small fender bender...Very,Very small
Chances of him getting fired for not reporting a small fender bender... much much more likely.
