Now that makes a lot of sense. You can run the APU all day, you just can't get power from it. Maybe they want you to read, or something. Stay off that computer now... we don't want you staying awake past your beddie-bye time.

    Holy shnikies that's ghey.

You can always buy a small inverter that plugs into the 12 volt outlet to use with your computer. I just use the big inverter for my microwave anyways. So the two hour limit isn't a big deal.

There are multiple 12-volt power outlets in the cab and sleeper area for running your computer, food cooler (12 V thermoelectric kind, for example Koolatron brand), TV, video player, charging your phone and other low-wattage stuff. Those outlets are not on any time limits and have no limit on their use. (The only time they power down is when the truck detects that you've drained the batteries to the point where if the outlets were not shut off, you might have trouble starting the engine. The vast majority of the trucks, however, have an auto-start feature that will start up the main engine to charge the batteries, then shut the engine back off after they're charged up.)

2 hours on, 10 hours off is plenty to run your microwave oven to heat up your meals. Basically the only thing you're not able to run in this setup is a full household-type refrigerator, the kind with freon and a compressor. But a 12-volt Koolatron works just fine, and running a regular household refrig in the shaky, bouncy environment of a semi tractor isn't a good idea anyway -- it will wreck the fridge in fairly short order.
