Do they still make you go out with someone for a week or so to learn the over the road skills or do they just let you go?

You'll go out with a mentor driver (not a trainer) you don't need a trainer, you just need to be familiar with Roehl's procedures and policies. This is only a maximum of 7 days (usually determined by the mentors evaluation ) Most experienced drivers catch on in 5 days or less, the hardest part for most exp. drivers is having to do everything legally.

Well Im doing alot of homework on companys, and I think Ive come up with a few.. Plus Ive had a few offers that I deffently dont want. I dont know if I want to go out already and sweat my balls off this summer inside a truck..? Im not broke, so its not a matter of survival for me. Its trying to find a company that actually, and could possibly have there #####
together completely. So I have one who is very high on my list. Plus they start you out at $.32 and or $.34 a mile and thats practical miles. not the cump change most are offering. One company has trucks all less then 3 years old, and all come with a refrigerator.? and thats a plus.. I rate it high because they are also not charging there new students anymore then Roehl for training.. Not one of those fricken CDL mills.. very good pay when you go out with trainers too.!
Weeks one and two - First 14 days of training = $500.00 per week
Week 3 - Days 15 through 21 = $550.00
Week 4 - Days 21 through 28 = $600.00
Week 5 - Days 29 through 35 = $650.00
Weeks 6 and up - Days 36 and up = $700.00

Now thats cool if you want or need a few more weeks of training, and at that pay it would be a plus to just hang out and learn from an expert driver.
  • Caterpillar Multi-Torque Engine. 380-430 HP
  • 10 speed, 13 speed, and auto shift Transmissions,
  • ABS braking with traction control
  • Refrigerator
  • Aluminum Wheels
  • Touchless 5th wheel release
  • VIP interior
  • Customized storage capacity
  • Double bunks (upper and lower)
  • Crank out vent windows in the sleeper with screens
  • Dash mounted AM/FM radio with weather band\Summit driver comfort seat
  • Power locks and windows
Plus you can train in Ohio and be home every weekend. Now I wished I would have seen this before going to Roehl.. Gunner If interested pm me and I will tell you who it is.

DSR problems rampant

I picked up my first trainer at the Dayton yard. 121 miles away from me. no big deal. Then about 6 days later picked up another trainer and was switched in Birmingham, Al. No big deal. Both trainers taught me alot and I was having no real problems driving or anything else with being an OTR trucker. The problem didnt come until my last day after being out 11 days.

They or should I say the DSR decided to drop me off in Tiffen,Ohio which was 27 miles from the house.. Where as I didnt have any way to get home, and my car was 147 miles away too. Which I had no way to retrieve. I discussed this with the DSR at the time and I figured out fast that this was the way it was going down.. I did try to make other arangments with him. His answer: " You will figure it out "
Yes I did. After discussing this problem with Fleet Manager. I never made it to evo II. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

Too bad too I really like OTR. But not enough to let someone walk all over me. I sure if my wife wasnt a true blonde, and could drive outside the city limits, or had someone else who could have picked me up and took me to my car in Dayton, Ohio. Im sure I would have still been with them.

Good training school, good trainers at school and on the road. Good value for the money. I never met a person I didnt like at school or OTR. Not so smart DSR's or Fleet managers though.

Your call, just my experience.

I might add if I could find aother company that was good as Roehl I wouldnt hesitate to go do it again. and Im presently looking. Driving OTR is was really fun for me because I like a challangeing job.
I also went thru the school, with similar positive reviews. I've had 4 DSR's since training, including my Evo III DSR. Each has been progressively worse. I blew up at my new one earlier this week, because he was trying to tell me how I was going to drive the truck. This is the first time I've had a prob with them interfering with me like this. I'll post again on Roehl's primary prob.

Unhappy Smooth as sandpaper

Roehl seems to do very well when there are no problems (duh). However, when something comes up, you'd think Godzilla attacked Marshfield. It becomes a game of passing the buck to customer service to load planners to DSR to me to DSR to Load planners...continue ad nauseum. Always CYA.

Again, if you are running smooth and making appointments, they seem to have a load ready MOST of the time. If you start running late or don't take a load, the load planners seem to go to react mode, rather than planning ahead for you.

Any other drivers, tell me if this makes sense.

Currently looking at other companies, but don't want to give up on Roehl just yet.
