When I came on, HazMat was required for van as well. That was Dec of 2008, and things do change. Likely ask your recruiter.
The only other thing I could add, is yes, you made a good choice.:biggrin_25525:

The Schneider recruiter that spoke at my school today said you were required to get the HazMat endorsment within 90 days..I think...may have been 60, but you had to get it...he was discussing regional routes.

    LOL....
I think not!! MOST tanker loads are HAZ-MAT!!
That is why you spend DAYS in a hazmat protective suit in tankerschool....
Simply put, Schneider wants any truck driver to be capable of pulling any load (within their division)...so they want all VAN drivers to be HAZMATT approved, and the tanker HazMat goes without saying!

I can't answer any training questions but, I believe schneider is a good company to work for. I did western regional for 4 months. During that time I was very happy. Their planning is good. I only sat without a load twice for 1 day. The dbls (driver managers) are very friendly. You are treated like a person. Communication is key. Let them know about everything that is going on with your load. Trucks are not pretty, but they are dependable. The fleet is a little older than most. Oldest truck I've been in was a 2002. All Detroit Diesels either series 60 or the dd13 or 15. They're all neutered to 370 horses. I've yet to have a break down. All in all, I am very happy. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

eddytude, Capt Gruuvy nailed it regarding Schneider. If you would permit me to add a few items:

    1. There are actually 2 weeks of OTR training with a Training Engineer (TE) if you're a newbie. You are a guest in the TE's rig and driving his load assignments. My TE told me that SNI wants trainees to do 70% of the driving.

    2. In the Charlotte, NC area they were short TE's, so some of my fellow students had to wait a week or two between Orientation and TE Training. However, Schneider will pay you while you wait.

I would recommend you search for RoadRaid3r's post on his recent experience with Schneider from Orientation to going solo. IMO, Schneider is a great place to start. Good luck!
