Can anyone for Schneider National tell me about how many miles a week they are getting. I hope to hire on in Feb 2011 and was just wondering how well you guys are doing? Are you happy with pay? Do they have respect for drivers? How long will I be with a trainer? How long are you away from home? Do they have a pet policy?
    Thanks

Hi, You should just ask your recruiter these questions. And I'm sure for the first time in your trucking career, you'll be told what ya wanna hear:biggrin_2559:

Yes that is why I wanted to ask here first because I know they will tell me anything. I trust the drivers first.

You know what the diff between a fairy tale and a trucker story is........a fairy tale begins with "once upon a time...".

Just a word of caution, take what drivers on here say with a grain of salt. You have some on here who are "fan boys" and will only tell you the good, and then you have MANY on here who have axes to grind for whatever reason. And will only tell the negative.

That being said, to answer you original question.....hard to say on miles. freight picks up then slows down. Plus it depends on where you are, and are you van, bulk or dedicated. I'm an IC, but I do know there is no pets in company trucks. As far as how you treated. They are a large company with thousands of people working for them. So if you think that everybody will know your name and pat you on the back everyday, you will be disappointed. They are in business to make money, bottom line. They have their rules and way of doing things, if you play by their rules you'll be fine. Just remember you are/will be working for a large corporation, not unlike IBM, ExxonMobil or Microsoft. Don't take things personal, its just business, and you will be fine.

Here are the last few weeks of miles from me, running out of the midwest. I am on a dedicated account and work 5-6 days in a week.I am copying these from my pay stubs, so these are paid miles, which is (for me ) about 4% less than I actually drove.

So I have averaged 2475 miles over past 6 weeks. Something Schneider does (and I am not sure about others) is that if I dead head back at end of week, I do not get those dead head miles until I pick up the next load, which will be the next week. So that can skew each week, but over this 6 week period it is balanced out, it just accounts for some of those 1,000 mile differences in weeks. I was told I would get 2500-2700 miles, so I consider that pretty accurate. In addition, at least in my case, I have made more money with stop charges, detention pay, and hand unloading trailers. Some weeks that can add $300 a week to my check.

I'll be watching this thread closely. A phone interview with Scheider is scheduled for later today. Tankers is my desire.

How would you say these miles compare to what an OO would expect, not on a dedicated route? Similar or would you be getting more, being on dedicated runs?... Thanks

I think thay I can help here a little. I hired on as I/C until my truck caught fire. Before you hire on as IC you give them a budget, which they then send to the Accounting firm along with the truck payments and other expenses. then they tell you how many miles that you need to avg every week to make it. For me it was 2500 miles. That also will go to your dispatcher. They then have to make sure that you at least get those miles every week. Right now as company driver, OTR, my avg length of haul is 600 miles. I am averaging close to 2800 miles every week. This is because there is always that weekend load that can not deliver until Monday. I am now a Company driver until next year, then back to IC again.

Along with what Yankee Texan said, they are a large company, but depending on where you live, you might work out of a terminal close to you. You treat them right, and they will take care of you. Case in fact, delivered a load last Sunday. Sat all day. Monday was deadheaded to Carlise to get my truck fixed. Paid layover and breakdown pay.

Again, treat them good and fair, and they will treat you the same.
