Is Schneider a good company to work for?

THD...I am sorry for your troubles.

However I 100% disagree on everything in your post except how they pay miles. In past 6 months only once was I not paid for my extras (loading, unloading, detention, NYC,etc). I called my dbl and it was fixed on my next check. I can only remember sitting twice ever, and both of those were shipper related, and I just took my ten hour break and started fresh when I could.

I am not challenging your thoughts or feelings, just saying I know more happy drivers than angry ones at SNI.

I'm not angery with them, just a little dissapointed, that's all. What really chapps my butt is finding out that they don't pay for even practical or door to door miles. Being in Bulk, we get alot of shuffeling around trailers, going to tank washes, drop a partial load here & the other accross town. Yet, because it is all in the same zip code, we don't get paid for it & to me, That's BS. It's like getting free labor, or a better way of putting it, Slave labor. Either way you slice it, it's just wrong. One should get paid for the work that they do.

 

I don't know nything about bulk, but if I shuttled or moved a trailer I got paid for it. I guess I would argue if I have been in this zipcode xxx minutes, and was on duty and under a load, then iwas detained and put in for that downtime. Again, my entire short career has been hauling on a dedivated route, so it is possible SNI had better negotiated terms with them allowing me more pay and extras. I know if I submitted for extra pay it was ultimately passed on to the customer by SNI.

After sleeping on it I have decided to edit my original post to this. I have been with SNBC for almost 11 years and most of what THD has posted is wrong. He/she either doesn't know what they are talking about or is a troll and just wants to start stir up crap. Either way, most of his info is incorrect.

 

I, too, have not had THD's experience at SNI. All pay issues, which I check and recommend to everyone to look at their settlement weekly, has been swiftly corrected. I have no experience in bulk - I am on the van side, but would assume that administrative items are handled the same.

The only other thing I can say is that we are ruled by freewill. If I was not willing to accept what an employer is offering - good and bad, and no matter my opinion on the matter - I would not accept employment with them. I am not trying to stir controversy; I am just sayin'.

This is not about being a Schneider pom-pom holder, I have some issues, but overall they have met my expectations and the issues are not a deal breaker for me.

 

Sorry Pal, Deffinately no troll, & NO! I'm not wrong. In Bulk, we are paid, Zipcode to zipcode, Bottom line & Fact! STL's & DBL's Have confirmed it allong with what I have seen on my pay stub. That's the way it has been, That's the way it will be! Period. Exact words from Green Bay.

Now I do not know what it's like on the van side, so I won't comment on them, But in BULK, I KNOW what I'm talking about. If you want names, I Sure as hell can provide them allong as to what OC's they are with.

 

Ok, "Pal" your not getting "screwed". Your pay wass spelled out in black and white before you started. YOU made the decision to hire on and should have known what the pay rate was when you got into the orange truck. So don't come on here and whine about the pay.

All the stops....you get paid for those. So stop saying you don't. Shagging trailers around town..unless your a local driver you are doing very little of that. And, if you do you can get paid for it. (plus your a company driver so your NOT even paying for the fuel to begin with).

Self-Insured......That is for the trucks NOT health insurance.

HHG....pretty much every company uses that. Maybe a smaller mom and pop type might not. But, most every larger company will (unless they pay %, which is a whole other kettle of fish)

Calling in looking for a load every hr or so.....I'm tossing the b.s. on that one. You send a message and maybe call once, not every hr or so. They don't dispatch loads at night unless its in emergency. So if you don't have anything by say 5pm central time, you simply just send a msg saying your going home and send a new mac17 to show avail time.

Time off....put it in 10-14 days out and your will not have any issues. Ive missed getting home ontime ONCE in 11 years. (That was because i took an extra load for a few more miles instead of the short one home. MY CHOICE)

And last.....STOP with the "Slave labor" bull spit. You are NOT a slave, you are more then welcome to leave anytime you want.

 

THD, may be you should try the van side. I don't remember ever so many problems I had something to bierh about. Not every day was rosy for sure, but it was good enough the bad times never lasted long, unless I wanted them too.

 

Ok, all that being said. I live in NC and am wondering if you guys have any input as to whether or not I should go with their in house cdl cert and training. Ive been a firefighter/ EMT for the last 10 years and have plenty of drive time on the trucks. I understand its not the same as trucking but love it and would have to say I have learned plenty about driving a 65000 lb bomb at above speed limit while dodging traffic. Like I said I know its different but I love to drive the big trucks and remember summers with my dad in his cabover Pete trucking to TX. I just havent decided if I want to go to a private school or train with a company... Any help appreciated. Thanks guys

 

I'm not sure SNI went back to that program, it's been 10 month's since I've been there. But I do know you would sign a contract to reimburse the company for the school, and be locked in with them for a year, IIRC. A private school isn't cheap, read that $4k,plus or minus, but then you're not locked in to any one company. Another thing, a private company is only going to give you enough info to get your CDL, I suspect SNI, and others, may give you a better overview of what's going on, since they will have some time and money invested in you.
