I was wondering how Schneider is to work for. I have had my CDL for about 2 and a half years. I drove for Werner and didn't really have a good experience there and never got my own truck. I filled out an application a few days ago and got a call from them saying that they are hiring for Northeast Regional but they want me to take a refresher course which is totally understandable. How good is regional? If anyone who is currently employed with this company could give me their opinion I would greatly appreciate it.

Head and shoulders above Werner. Left Roehl 4 months ago for SNI and I have no regrets.

You left Roehl for Schneider? I thought Roehl was a good company dishing out the miles? How many miles are you getting at Schneider? Glad your happy though.

I talked to a recruiter at Schneider today and that person said that I need three months of experience before they will hire me. I also talked to a recruiter at Werner and that person said that they would hire me if I took a refresher course but I went there a couple of years ago and had a bad experience. The trainers there didn't train me that well and didn't treat me with respect. If I could, I would definitely choose Schneider over Werner. I could also go to CR England but I have heard horror stories about them and I don't like the fact that they try to rook you into leasing a truck.

They are like any BIG company, you will get lost in the shuffle. They pay low, and you can sit for days without a load. If you can look and find a different place to work, do it. I was there for under a year and was lucky to get 2000 miles a week, it was starting to cost me money to work for them, so I got out.

Hubby and I drove for Roehl as well and left to join Schneider. Haven't regreted it for a moment. There will be days when it seems nothing is going right but they have always been up front with us and if we have a concern we voice it and if it is something that can be fixed they will do their best to.

As with any company these days, You, as the Applicant, reaaly need to take the time & turn the tables around, so to speak. You really have to take the time to dig lang, hard & deep one that company. You need to know just what they are about & if they will work for what you stand for. NEVER EVER Let any company force you to accept less than what your self worth is.

With Schneider, I can tell you they WILL Screw you & make you think they are doing you a favor if given a chance. They claim they pay HHG miles. THEY DO NOT!!! They pay zip code to zip code. So if you pull a load to lets say, Charlotte, NC, unload & then have you load in another part of charlotte, even though it may be 20-30 miles away, you will not get paid for those miles, because you are still in that zip code. They are well known for not paying for load & unloading pay. You really have to be able to decifer their pay check stub. I've found that in the past 6 months, they've screwed me out of 20 unload & loading pay. & When I brought it to their attention, they told me that I should have brought it to their attention sooner, (within 14 days) as now, there is nothing they can do about it.

Their company insurance is Highway robbery. For a self insured company, those rates shouldn't be that high. If you happen to end up in your home OC & waiting on a load, you will not get paid for detention, even though you had to sit in your truck for 24 + hrs trying to get a load. They will tell you that you should have gone home, but, what they do, is, they keep having you call in every hr or two while you are sitting making you think that they will have you going shortly, keeping you there at the OC. & NO! This doesn't matter if you are on a regional or dedicated account, as I have been on both & it's all the same.

They make you put in for your time off, with no guarentee that you will have it off. Depends upon who requested it first.

You better get use to keeping your foot off the peddle for if you go over their 5% over speed, you will not get your bonus nor will you get a raise. If someone calls in on you claiming that you did something unsafe, Schneider will take their word over yours regardless. You will be forced to go through a safety training assesment again, knocking you out of your bonus, and hence any chance for a pay raise. You must stay clean for at least 6 months before you will be able to get a bonus / raise. All it takes is just once, & you are done. You are stuck at your rate, which is already dirt cheap. How a company expects you to raise a family on those rates, is beyond me. These rates have been the same since the late 80's, and we all know, the cost of living has more then trippled since then, yet the driver is still fed crums.

If you are looking for a company that pays for experiance, then I would suggest Heartland Express. If you have a hazmat endorsement & at least 1 years exp, they will start you out around .50 / mile & you get to choose as to where you want to run. IF pulling into NYC or the Burrows, there's a $100 bonus for doing so. Once I get my year in, that's where I'm heading. Mainly because of the higher / mi pay. Everything else will work itself out.

I guess there are always two sides of the coin. However with us Schneider has always been fair. Even when we ran for a company who paid "practical" miles we were always running more than what we were paid for sometimes 100 miles more. When I found that we were not reimbursed for a motel expense I contacted our DBL and even through I couldn't find our trip sheet with the authorization number I was told to submit a copy of the receipt and got another authorization number and got the reimbursement. We run what they give us. I don't know what was meant as doing them favors but we haven't been asked to do anything out of the ordinary.
