i currently drive for prime and after 7 months, i am considering schnider, the home time is better... as a company driver i haul mostly refeer, haardly ever dry.. we start at 39cpm but 8 cents of that i per diem(i hear bad things about this, having to owe taxes)... prime is a good company but schnnider is offering 6days out and 3 days in. prime gives u a day for each week...most of us usually stay out 4 weeks and take 4 days home. as a company driver i have only once seen more than 3000miles per week and my largest check was 1500something dollars.... prime charges company drivers for chains, load locks, locks etc...coming out to about 700 bucks that they will take in increments of 45.one of the biggest complaints i have is that prime gives the company drivers lightweight trucks...meaning very tight space or if you plan on living on the road... no space for half of your things... i am definately going to leave prime on good terms in case schnider doesnt turn out to be better but i am willing to take that pay cut to be home weekly, and really i believe from what my friend that works for schnider has shown me, i'd still be making around the same amount of money; and have the option to stay out longer with schnider. i am not sure with their tanker division or flatbed division but on the refeer side. be prepared if u drive for prime to stay up in the NE. but weigh out your options...get advise from people working with both companies...lease drivers have their own opinions so i would hear it out from more of the company drivers.. 4/10 driver good luck to you and your trucking journey.

If you already have your CDL, then go Schnieder. If you don't have a CDL, then my research tells me go Prime. Then, after your first year, go Schneider.
    That's my plan anyway.

If you follow the Prime thread, there are a lot of happy truckers w/ Prime.

    Good luck!

I'd go with Superior Carriers if I were you. They often take students and it is a SUPERIOR company (not just a starter company.) You can get in touch with WYSROB on here. He works for them and can hook you up with any info you need. I'd be there myself, but you have to live relatively close to them to park at the terminal and I'm way too far away.

Thanks guys for all your help. I completed my schooling already & got my CDL with all my endoursements allfinished last Saturday (except for my hazmat, I am waiting for my background check to be completed & mailed to me). I decided to go with Prime mainly cause of the pet policy otherwise I would of went with Schinder. I have no choice I have to bring my pet on the road with me thanks loving all the info guys!

you may also want to reconsider before anything is finalized. prime will charge you $1000 for your animal but they will just take it out in payments.. The trucks that prime gives their company drivers are not big... you get 2 seats and a bed with no extra room for much...i took my YORKIE on with me for a month and she was not happy and barely had space to do anything other than sleep... i put my shepard on for a test run for one day... Not happening! people will tell you that all you have to do is talk to someone about getting a new truck and you'll get one..... i've been trying for 2 months now. and also keep in mind that prime will along with the pet fee being taking 45 per check so that you can pay off those CHAINS and suchoverall it'll be about (750)$ schnider doesn't make you pay for that.

Schnider doesn't allow pets...I knew about the $1000 pet policy, it seems a lot of companies are charging about that much or not allowing pets at all. I thought Prime had your standard size Peterbilt?

if you are going to be a company driver for prime, you will more than likely receive a brand new shiny 2012 lightweight cascadia. chances of getting something other than that is very slim. i am telling you, you would have to get that passenger
seat removed for any type of space or freedom.

I have heard Prime does, actually a lot of companies do give new trucks from what I have been told maybe because nothing bad on new drivers records. Plus Prime trains on the road for like 1-3 monthes so not sure but maybe that is why too....
