prime, along with some other companies, do in fact give brand new rookie drivers brand new trucks.

I wouldn't want one of those lightweights tho, I looked in one at a shipper, I looks as bad as a cab over for space.

 

That's the best description, however a lot of rookies these days haven't ever been inside a cabover.

 

Who is Schider?

 

It's luck of the draw for Prime company drivers. Rookies will get nothing older than 3 years up to and including brand new. Flatbed division has a better chance of a condo, but I've seen half a dozen Flat guys in the lightweight trucks in the last couple months.

There's is no choice in the matter for company drivers... They toss you the keys to inspect and move in.

I've met several guys who were able to talk their way into a condo, but it usually involved a few months of solid performance, or a good reason (wife wants to ride along or height issues) or a Fleet Manager going to bat for you.

The Fleet Manager thing goes back to a few months of solid performance.

 

Also, driving for prime you have to worry about your truck randomly turning into giant robot at times.

schneider usually starts you out with a older truck to see how you are going to treat the truck and to see your performance right now i have a 09 with 450,000 miles on it and i perfer the older ones seems like im in the shop less than the newer ones

 

Primes truck are leased, and Schneider trucks are purchased. Prime doesn't care too much if a rookie (or any driver) isn't careful because in 3-4 years it will be gone and on a Freightliner lot somewhere as a SelecTruck. Not only that, but if something is wrong with a truck and a company driver is in it, they will often take the truck away and make it a lease/op truck and then the lease/op driver gets stuck with the repair bill. Schneider buys them and will keep them 7+ years and then sells them. They want their trucks to last longer and care a little bit more about them which is why rookies tend not to get newer trucks.
