I just got my CDL & have a pre-hire from both Schider & Prime Inc. & I am having a hard time deciding which would be best to go with as a OTR company driver. Schider pays better but it is a tanker hauling chemicals where as Prime is a basic combo. So I need any good & or bad feed back on both companies that anyone can provide. :biggrin_2554:

Schneider has more than just tanker. I'm happy so far but I'm new. Cant speak of Prime as I have no first hand experience with them.

I don't see any dry vans for Prime. Only refer, flatbed and some tanker. Prime is one of the only vehicles I ever pass in my slow orange truck. I've heard some bad things about Prime, but they're definitely far from the worst.

You can go tanker or van with Schneider. Van does pay less, you should start at 27 cents I believe.

Schider isn't hiring for anything but OTR tankers in my area...the other probelm is they have no pet policy but Prime does, I have to bring my pet with me.

Well, that is definitely a deal breaker there and answers your question LOL. Again, if you're going with Prime, I'm positive (not 100%) that you would be running refrigerated.

Yes I believe it'll be a reefer, Prime also trains much longer so probably better off for a newbie (plus the pet thing) I was just impressed by how much better Schider's tanker pays & being greedy LOL!

Follow this link for a schedule of company driver pay rates at Prime. I believe this is just for the reefer division. There are some slight increases for flatbed and tanker to offset the increased waiting time and delays they get.
