Sounds to me like you need to make the pickup and hammer down to CO without making that stop off. Your excuse? "Sorry, I thought that the "O" meant "optional".

I've always wondered what it meant as well.

stevep1977, mickimause and Dipschitt Thank this.

I think this is a Frito Lay load. It's a 3rd party warehouse so not sure at this point. I do know that Frito lay pays a premium to avoid high elevations so they pay extra to go the long way around. Have to go from the Bay area all the way down to I-40, take that across to Albuquerque, then up I-25. If you go up over I-70 the bags will explode with the air pressure change.

I also booked a cheapo load out of that mine in Las Vegas so I get to check out the place that all these Western 11 drivers are talking about. Got me within 100 miles of that nice paying light load to CO so it's worth hauling a short break even load.

Right now I'm preplanned through 11/3/14. I'm crazy like that. We'll see how long it takes for one of these loads to cancel

Alright fellow drivers, in Dec my year is up and thinking about joining van side. So few question.
You guys always running? Never had to wait for preassignment?

    Mechanic okay at the oc?
    95% drop and hook?
    Mt searching how that go.

Do they make you run nights(ex: finish one assignment at 1500 and realize the appointment for the next is 0200)

And hometime. What is it 11/3? 14/3? I'm assuming you guys run recap so you guys work 8ish hours a day?

Thanks maybe see you guys at the oc one day

Generally.....no. But it happens..... I can only remember 1 time, and I got the assignment in about 15 minutes

    Mechanic okay at the oc?
    Depends on where you go

    95% drop and hook?
Not really.....but not that far off either

    Mt searching how that go.
Not well.....but as a company driver, you get paid by the mile for it.

Do they make you run nights(ex: finish one assignment at 1500 and realize the appointment for the next is 0200)
Never had a problem that way.....mostly they work off of your NAT (not sayin' it won't happen, but it never happened to me)

And hometime. What is it 11/3? 14/3? I'm assuming you guys run recap so you guys work 8ish hours a day?
Depends on where you live....if you live in a good freight market, hometime is not a problem. If you live in a bad freight market, hometime is a struggle.

Thanks maybe see you guys at the oc one day

As long as you set your available time accurately, you won't sit without a load 95% of the time. If it's a weekend/slow period or the systems down or something stupid happens, maybe you'll sit for an hour.

Mechanics? Don't go to Atlanta (clueless), Dallas (always a 3-4 day wait before getting into the shop), Obetz (good staff but understaffed/long waits). Gary is meh, ok, I liked Indy, Edwardsville, West Memphis, Carlisle, Fontana and Salt Lake City. Portland seemed fine. Charlotte I haven't had issues but haven't gone there much at all.

95% drop and hook? Yeah, if you count it on one end or the other. Maybe 20% are preloaded on one end and a drop on the other. 60-70% has either a live load OR a live unload, 10-20% have live loads AND live unload

Home time is whatever you work out with your DBL. OTR is generally 5 or 6 days off per month pretty much however you want to allocate it. If you want to be home every week expect only a 34 hr restart. Unless you get on a home run setup with it's 2 weeks out 1 week off or 1 week out 1 week off.

In regards to being forced to run nights, no that is not the case. You can easily learn how to dictate your schedule so it doesn't dictate you. Plus if you get into the night runs expect to be dedicated grocery DC guy. Don't want to be that. I found that it was best to start days at 4 am, drive 4 hours to a 8am delivery, get unloaded, get loaded at the next stop in late morning/early afternoon, drive halfway to the next place and shut down, rinse repeat.

    gentleroger and w.h.o Thank this.
