Orientation in Green Bay, 2/4/14?

Well, I made it all the way here, and got checked into the Settle Inn. Not bad, I guess. I've stayed in worse, but not by choice.

Anyone else out there joining me here for the next few weeks?

 

I live in central Michigan, background is varied - I did auto parts for almost 20 years, the last 6 1/2 were chemical manufacturing. Got caught up in the layoffs last winter/spring. Got tired of being unemployed, and I have a cousin who drives. They are o/o or l/o for Swift (not exactly sure on the details, but I know they don't drive a Swift tractor), and were pretty forthcoming on the pros and cons of driving. I'm independent enough to handle it, I think, and would really prefer not dealing with people all day, every day!

I would like to get a regional or local job eventually, but expect that I will have to do OTR first. I tried tankers, but would have had to relocate to Denver, according to my recruiter. I am okay with that, but I don't think my husband would be...

I didn't completely fill out my profile when I first joined, because I still was on the fence a tiny bit. I will take care of that now!

 

Headed to Gary today to get my truck!

Sharing a rental with one of the other guys in orientation, so I'm trying very hard to consolidate all the crap I have to take with me. Really wasn't planning on having to share a car... He's picking up the rental in Saginaw, then driving over here to pick me up, then about 4 hours to Gary. Anyone going to be there tonight?

Got to Gary, picked up my truck (hard to do a good pre-trip in the dark) and so far it's in really good shape. 2012 Cascadia, 343K miles, give or take a few hundred. Minor stuff I want looked at tomorrow, or at least noted as damaged when I got it - passenger side batwing has been torn off, missing the mattress for the top bunk (but the bottom one is still in the plastic), evidence of an oil leak in the area of the rear main. Little stuff. Plus anything else I find in the daylight - MagLites are nice, but they can only do so much!

Late night tonight, means a fairly late start tomorrow. Hopefully I can get truck stuff taken care of and be out of here relatively early. Going to try to start my days early and end them early, based on repeated recommendations!
