I would be wary of buying one of these trucks. You should see how many of these drivers treat them. When they don't pay for the parts or the repairs, they just don't give a flying **** and beat the hell out of them. Put them in gear when starting from a stop by just ramming the shifter into the hole until it finally grinds into place. Starting a dead cold engine and immediately revving it to the governed RPM of 1600-1700 to build up air pressure. Running the oil down to the bottom of the dipstick or waiting for the low oil pressure light to come on before adding oil. Start out in 5th or 6th gear with a loaded trailer slipping the clutch and applying throttle in order to get moving. Drop 2 drivelines in a 1-month period because they are too incompetent to know when to start out in low gear on a hill with a 46,000lb paper roll load. Get stuck and abuse the hell out of the clutch, engine and driveline trying to get out. Ram into loaded trailers so hard they get knocked back a few feet when coupling.
Would I buy one to use as a farm truck or as a backup truck? Sure
Would I count on it every day to make me money?
Nope.
Who buys these older Schneidertruck.com trucks?

You will see A LOT of them going over seas. Mainly Russia and western Asia.

Well, fleet trucks from other companies at least come back to the original owner which holds the user company accountable for repairs needed before they sell them.
SNI does not take care of their trucks anymore than they have to. I drove for them 2 years and trust me I had to be someone's godson in the upper echelon to get even the most
basic preventative maintenance. They change their oil every 30k miles if the driver is kind enough to bring it in on top of which their oil is refiltered and used again. So yea, if they go for 15k or something I would say sure why not but
some of their trucks have like 750k miles plus and they are selling them for like 40k. Hell if you want a company truck that bad.. werner truck sales has newer trucks ie 2010s with 500k miles more or less for about 45 to 50k.hal380 Thanks this. -
Most of these trucks are getting sold by lot to countries that use the "I'm sure I can fix that, and if I can't who needs it anyway" philosophy. Domestic buyers will tend to buy 3-4 trucks, planning on running 2-3 and using the last one as parts truck. These carriers are generally running within a smaller radius where they have easy access to (realativily) cheap repairs. The general idea is to get a truck at bargain basements pricing, toss a few grand in and you've got a nice beater that you can run locally doing intermodal or shuttle work. If you aren't very comfortable with a wrench in your hand these are NOT the truck for you. These are not trucks for first time owners. Any of the Century class trucks still on that site are the ones that everyone else has looked over and rejected. There are much better deals out there.

Where are the much better deals???? ..not in Truck Paper or Comercial Truck Trader......looking for a:
58-72" Mid Roof Freightliner Century, Detroit engine, 1999-2007, less than 600K miles, 3.55 or higher rear end, any manual tranny, for less than 25K.......Serious question (not being sarcastic or anything)....
Most dealers (even the ones simply re-selling fleet trucks) are asking for close to 40K for trucks in the 650-750K mile range...hell here's a nice one:
http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5151047 or, http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5256359
and http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5256359
Also, forget about the mythical pre - emissions trucks, it seems O/O are holding on to those and when they do come up for sale, well, good luck getting one for less than 30K.....so, If there are other resources you can recommend to find a good, cheap, reliable first truck, PLEASE let us know....(I'm serious, I'll take all help I can get).
P.S. that's not to say the odd one comes along every once in a while, but, MAN, you've got to be on the lookout 24/7!!!!hal380 Thanks this. -
