I was looking at the Schneider website and they say that they will hire recent truck driving school grads to drive a tanker. Now I know I might be asking this a bit early since I haven't even started at a driving school yet but would driving a tanker be good for a new driver? The reason I ask is because I wouldn't mind doing some physical stuff as well as drive.

Absolutely, tankers are an excellent choice, this part of the industry is always hiring, seems like not a lot of drivers want to do this type of work and I don't know why because the money is excellent.
You should contact Schneider and ask if the school your looking at is n their approved list.
Stick with them a year and keep your license clean and you'll be amazed at what money can be made.

Ok I'll give them a call. Thanks for the input. My other question is what is the home time like for the regional side of things?
-
Can't answer about Schneider, I'm regional and home at least 5 nights a week, maybe 1-2 overnight a week, pretty much everything I do can be turned in the same day I have a dedicated route so its load out straight back empty

Gotcha...I wouldn't mind staying in the truck some but would like to at least be home and see the girlfriend more then once every 14 days or so.

And thanks again for the input

Yes, go tanker, good money. Here's some more that hire new CDL grads, but Schneider Bulk is a good choice. After 6-12 months experience you can find a local job if that's what you want.

I almost went with Schneider tanker after school. At the time there was a nice sign-on bonus (paid out in increments over a year), & they said you could pick 6 days per month to be home. Was talking with one of their drivers the other day. It was his first driving job, & had been at it for about 4 months. I asked him how true to their word they were about letting him pick his 6 days for hometime. He said that so far they'd given him the 6 days he wanted each month. When I was talking with Schneider, the recruiter in the area I'd have been driving out of said that most of the drivers picked 3 weekends & as far as she knew it wasn't a problem; actually worked out well.

Everything I've heard and read it would be a great way to start, pays well especially for your first driving job and is a great way to open some more doors as well.

Like I said I want something physical but with good home time. I know that is asking a lot being it would be my first driving job. So I'll have to give a recruiter a call but I think I'm going to call a recruiter for McElroy as well.
