Pre work screen video, Pretty much thats it only they had us walk on a 4x4 beam(frontwards, backwards and sideways) and also on a catwalk(like on a tanker. All pretty easy, they check you heart rate while you perform these to make sure it doesn't go to high. I'm 58 and I passed.

Day 3, hook and unhook tankers this morning, man it was HOT!!! I was drenched head to toe! After lunch was a safety meeting, then driving, I learned skip shifting(kind of) 2-4-6 going up, 7-4-2 down, I sucked! They beat double clutch and 1-5 split up 6-10 then back down in CDL school, now they want me to forget it and do this skip shift! Drove me crazy, screwed it up alot! I will get it! Just more to learn!

When you say 4x4 beam, like a crossbeam in gymnastics? 4 inches wide isn't much.

Day 4, Much better today than yesterday, only screwed it up a few times! I understand why they want you to shift that way, but it is so UN-natural to shift that way! So I also need to slow down sooner for the turns. Tomorrow is the tanker on back, whole new ball game!

You can't realistically downshift one gear at a time when you are on the road. Any time you plan on braking with the intent of coming to a stop (stop sign or light) you are not going to downshift one gear at a time. You'll do the "bump and run" technique (think thats what they call it LOL) where you downshift 3+ gears at a time. Generically speaking, when in 10th gear at highway speeds and breaking for a 30mph exit ramp, you can brake in 10th down to idle rpm (550) and then downshift straight to 7th gear. You'll get the hang of matching your RPM and road speed for each gear.
