Hi drivers, an interesting situation occurred today about an 1 hr. ago, I get a call from a DBL at Sturtevant yard, and he is asking about a relay load that was suppose to be dropped in Lebanon TN. I said well considering I am at home currently, in WI, that would be a terrific trick to make happen. I just completed my 1st year this month, had my annual check out last Friday, passed with great colors, got home late Saturday evening, and reset my NAT for Tuesday AM. Went to see my eye doctor Monday, and he said my glasses needed to be replaced, 5 to 7 days for lenses. He recommend I not drive till lenses are replaced. Attempt to call my DBL again, as usual, this person is hardly ever available, so talked to another DBL to push my NAT back more, this person would give my DBL the message, most likely thru Monday morning 08/25. I go to Crossroads to check pre-assign tab, and I have 5 pre-assigned loads starting back to Thurs 08/21. I am thinking, OH CRAP!!! now what???

Ok, I prefer to work issues on my own, I don't call in hardly at all, I call the customer first before letting the system handle it, as to much time is lost, I get tired of going somewhere looking for an empty that don't exist, just to find out there was an empty 50 miles back the way I just came from. You hit up the DBL with a question, they need to get a hold of customer support for an answer that you never get, so your stuck with issue. Better than 75% of my previous loads have been live loads and live unloads, I guess not so terribly bad because I don't have to try to find an empty. My DBL has never been in a truck other than the 1 day training they do to see what it's like, OH BOY! I am considering asking them too come out with me for a week to sample the pie as it where. When I do call with a valid issue, this person makes every attempt to make it sound like its my fault. I lost a trailer tire couple weeks back, some cheap crap no name made in China tire where the steel belts blew apart, and DBL say's... Did you hit it with a hammer on your pre-trip? 2 tours ago I lost over 20 hrs. of time I could have been driving had it not been for sitting in the dock, looking for trailers, waiting for someone to make a decision. I am tired of sweating my A@# off in the humidity, can't idle range, and god forbid time to think about winter again already.

Could all this be a DBL issue, ask for a new one? I enjoy driving... I enjoy working with the shipper and receiver clerks, most of them anyway, I have a crap load of patience that is starting to run very thin, I find it becoming more difficult to leave my house and wife of 35+ years and 16 yr. old son each time I have to go back out.
Maybe in the long run this was not a good idea for me to do this job, or maybe my eye's are becoming open. Maybe there are too many cooks in the SNI kitchen...

I have met some of the coolest Schneider drivers on the road, easy to talk to at the OC's, and full of great stories to tell. Sorry I am going on about this, but sometimes you just have to let it out, it keeps getting bigger and bigger till it blows...

What you describe is trucking in general.Good thing to vent your frustations every once in a while. Some companies are better at some things, some worse at others. The trick is to find one that matches your needs.
Before you jump ship, make sure of what you are jumping into.

so you got the call from somerandom DBL? not yours?

If it were me , I would have a sit down with current DBL and the manager. Lay out all your concerns with them both and go from there.

Does your DBL hide under his/her desk all the time or something? At the very least get a different DBL, can't get any worse from the sounds of it.

Just tell the manager you won't work with that DBL anymore, its easy and satisfying. Also during your downtime, fill out a few applications and encourage them to contact your present employer.
