Hi I have a class a with tanker endorsement. However I have never actually driven a semi truck. Only a dump truck with trailer hauling a back hoe. All the dump trucks I have driven are automatic. I can drive stick though. Not sure how much different it is from a semi truck. My main question is would Schneider put me through school or would I learn and get plenty of driving practice through the orientation process?

IF the Orientation is like everybody else does it.
It's just a bunch of paperwork.
    And driving test.

    Maybe some extra Tanker Stuff.
If that's what you're wanting to do.

Generally though there is no real 'driving practice' during Orientation..

At roughly 11 bucks an hour and a 70 hour week, why bother?

Schneider wont put you through school. They may give you tuition reimbursement, Your best bet is to call a recruiter. I'm not sure what they'll do with your experience. Orientation is only 3-4 days. Paperwork, videos, a drive test where you couple and uncouple, then go somewhere and make 4 right turns and then park it.

    stevep1977 Thanks this.

Bulk orientation is a few days longer because they have to do all the same paperwork and other stuff van has to do plus they get to spend additional days learning loading and unloading

Don't they send you out with a trainer?

driving stick in a car vs in a truck is completely different. Some people find the truck difficult, but it really isn't. Once you learn to be patient, and drive the truck at the right engine speed, it's butter.

They would probably put you through Advance Driver Training Course (ADTC). It is a two week orientation (class room and yard/on road driving) + one week out with a trainer (TE). This is for new drivers fresh out of school or drivers with little OTR experience.
