Assuming your son is new to trucking: Companies fear giving a brand new truck to an inexperienced driver. New drivers in general will receive older equipment that is getting ready to be traded in for a new truck. Those new drivers will also bang & ding the equipment up as they slowly adjust to operating a combination vehicles increased height, length and blind spots. Reassure your son to Grin & Bear thru this period, run the miles, log & drive the truck safely...he'll get a newer truck probably within 18mos, that is 3-4 years old.
Brand new equipment will normally go to people like myself...million milers, (recognized safe drivers). -
When these crap uselese systems malfunction, noone really knows 100% how to fix them. So, they throw parts at it and the clear the codes and send on your way. Then a few thousand miles down the road, they same system malfunctions again and now you back at a different shop that does the same thing. So, depending on the issue;, it may not be a driver issues, but a truck issue.whoopNride and Fajo Thank this. -

Okay, its been a couple of years since I posted. The boy is still in a 2015 truck, and it still breaks down an awful lot. Things that I can recall are... A broken seat, brakes, blowing cpap wires, heaters breaking, etc. What I've learned is that most of the time, the shop claims they either cant find the problem, OR, they claim they've fixed it when in all reality, they didnt. He has figured out that if he throws a good fit and refuses to move until they really do fix it, gets the job done most of the time. The truck does break down more than it should, but the biggest problem is the fact that they dont fix things worth a ####.

umm still in a 2015 eh? I'm in the same 2013 that I was issued as used when I transfered to this account last year. so hes lucky with a low mileage truck. new or 20 yrs old dont matter. trucks come with bugs sometimes. takes a bit to work em out.
cpap deal is an issue thats seems unresolvable. use truck power to run the machine. that inverter really should be hard wired. but sni wont. good news is, if he keeps it upright and hasva goodvrelationship with his boss he can at some point be assigned a new one. they now have 1500 watt inverters factory installed.
bunk heater is not working right? it may be his doing in part. if you dont manually shut it off and wait a few before turning key to on then it will malfunction.
what about the seat thats broken? or was.
and what was the deal with the brakes?
except for the brakes none if those issues put a truck out of service. so therefore not broke down.
as a driver I need to articulate as clear and as detailed as possible to the mechanics what I think is wrong. If they can replicate it, great. if they cant and dont see anything out of whack then their hands are largely tied. like us the mechs have their own policies to work under.
in my time here I found that I need to work with what the truck dictates, not the other way around. much easier to do the work and a #### sight less stressful.Last edited: May 19, 2016
mom and gentleroger Thank this. -
Bless the boy for dealing with the issues
mom Thanks this. -
Most are non dot relatable. So he shouldn't be park waiting it to be fix, he should keep going and drop it in the yard when he goes home. Let them fix it while he sit at home not at a hotel.
For example my apu isn't working right and can't keep cool with this hot summer. But I came from schneider so I know how to deal with it until I have time to get it fix without wasting my work time.mom Thanks this. -
