Hey all.. am wondering if other sn drivers break down a lot. My son has been with sn for 7 months, and has been broke down and put up in a hotel approx. 8 times.. anywhere from three days to a week at a time. Is this normal???? They gave him a diff truck halfway through all this, but the breakdowns continue. He just left yesterday, and has to go for repair already..

Maybe with companies you been with. If a truck has constant break downs its either shoddy preventative maintenance, or lemon. That's coming from my experience with vehicles in general.

Also could be that the previous drivers beat the hell out of it. I had a tractor that i drove for a year. I had to turn it in to go on medical leave for a couple months. Came back and got in a different tractor. I saw the tractor that I had the previous year and within 2 1/2 months the next driver already destroyed the batwings and fairings on the tractor.

I would suggest having your son approach his DBL and/or the operations manager and in a professional manner discuss how aggravating and frustrating it is. Hopefully they'd upgrade him into a better piece of equipment if he's done a good job so far.

I'm assuming your son is new to trucking. Any truck will break down, new or older. Break downs are normal and him being new to the industry. They are probably giving him older equipment to drive. He is also not aware of things for potential break down OR he is not doing a thorough pretrip/post trip. Being a rookie is a huge learning curve in this industry and he should gain knowledge from these breakdowns for future driving in this industry. Encourage him to stick with this company for a year, preferably two years. After two years with a clean record, he can almost go anywhere to drive for a better company of his choice.

I keep telling him to stay with sn as it seems to be a great company for newbies especially! Their safety rules & regs make me feel better since he is young and new yet. I just have to keep wondering if asking for yet another truck would change anything... thanks for the quick replies guys!

Trucks in general are pieces of junk. They're poorly made. Too many parts made over seas by poverty level workers. I've been with 3 companies. Of all the trucks I've had not one was reliable. It's the reason I gave up wanting to become an owner operator.

Where is he based out of? What year(s) are the trucks he's been in? How many miles on them etc?

I talked with him tonight, & this is his 4th truck. He had two 2011's, 2012 & now is in a 2015.

2015 SHOULDNT have an issue. Tell him to keep it one piece so he can stay in it.
