I want some pros/cons of truck driving, I applied for a regional position, where they offered training to new CDL holders at Fox Valley Tech. I live in Oconto county 25 miles away from the schneider location in green bay. I think I will like driving, the only thing i'm scared about is I get kinda nervous when i'm driving in new areas i've never been in before, plus the biggest thing i've driven is a delivery truck at my current job in the warehouse. I don't want to get discouraged per say, but I would like some info.

Here are the job details tell me if this is bad at all; I mean i'm single and I only make 15 grand a year right now still haven't moved out because I can't afford to on this income (20 going on 21 on december 4th this year):

    • OmniTRACS - The latest in-truck technology with paperless logging and GPS
    • Company Facilities - Drivers have 24 hour access to company facilities with free and safe parking, showers, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities and cafeteria services.
    • Military Apprenticeship Program - U.S. military veterans, Guard members and Reservists who are new to the trucking industry may be eligible to earn an additional educational benefit check from the VA (up to $1,236 per month)

    EDIT:

oh yeah I also applied to them and got an interview setup the next day, its tomorrow.

It's a good deal; go for it. You can easily triple your current income. After gaining experience in trucking you can move on and make over $60K with either another company or with Schneider Bulk.

went with Schneider straight out of school and still with them.....they're a good outfit.....not great, but good.
as far as the other goes, heck, none of us have ever been where we're going until we go. The navigation will put you at the door step usually. Don't sweat it.

    Good luck!

Thank you! Also I have another question; when they called me the night after I applied to set up an interview, before the person even talked to me about an interview she was already talking about getting me setup at Fox Valley Tech; Is that a good sign?? Its also a "Phone" interview, even though i'm like 25 miles away from the schneider place, I even drive by it every day going to my current job.

It means, if you pass the interview, DOT physical, drug test, you're hired.

I take medication for bipolar/adhd, nothing that will show up on a drug test as far as I know though. What are the requirements for a DOT physical?

Basically if you're in good health to drive. Able to pass a drug test, do some physical labor, maybe a sleep study

Former Schneider tanker driver myself. I tell everyone who ask me. "Pick up the phone and dial 1-800-44-pride and tell them you want to drive tankers." Schneider is the best place to start in my opinion. Schneider gave me my start in the tanking world. If I had it to do over again, 8 years ago I would have started with Schneider.

Also, Schneider is HUGE! Lots of guys leave for various reasons but you can make a career there, they have so many options. So in summary, just do it, everyone that wants to be a trucker should be rejoicing in the fact that Schneider is paying for schooling.

By the way a member here called Firespock had Schneider pay for his school. You should P.M him. He's a tanker yanker, so he's much cooler than these boring van driver, lol!!

Means you're about to become a Pumpkin if you pass all the test. Don't worry, Schneider has some of the best training. OSR's can be tough, I know you have no idea what that means but don't worry you will meet them. Anyway they're tough but usually they are good. They will teach you to drive a truck. On the road training is usually 7 to 10 days but you can request more time but most likely you won't need it. You will also have the support of the largest driver force on the road as well as many Schneider drivers who are members here. You will be fine. Bring a good attitude and don't be too nervous, Schneider is a pretty welcoming company.
