In short, concerning this thread, if you're a wuss, trucking isn't for you.

And for GEORGIATRUCKER67, take the deal on chef school. There's a need for chef's; go to this website and there you go: sealiftcommand.com for good civil service job with government benefits.

I personally know new CDL grads that made $60K+ their first year solo driving chemical tankers. These guys are motivated for the good paychecks and have a strong work ethic. All tanker companies will hire Schneider Bulk drivers because they have excellent training.

As for online stock trading; my wife does that on the Hong Kong/Shanghai stock exchange and does well enough she doesn't need my flunky trucking money, but she puts up with me anyway.

Did they tell you that you had to take Schneider's health insurance? Because as far as I know, they can't make you sign up for any of their benefits. I don't have their health insurance, mostly because I already have coverage elsewhere. Even if I didn't, though, I don't think they can make you have it.

I don't believe any CO can make you take their health insurance. ...it's a voluntary benefit

The "stock trader" that started this thread hasn't been here in awhile so I searched for him. He was on another thread a couple days ago commenting contemplating about working for a different company.

If you opt not to take the health insurance benefit, will the company pay you the cash value of the insurance?

Meaning, will they pay you what they save by not providing your health insurance... in case I wasn't clear

They don't do that, and I've never even heard of that as a thing.

Some companies will do that especially with high cost employees - have the employee opt out and use government subsidies and pay the employee a cash "bonus". It's quasi legal depending how they do it.
