This is one thing I've said since I was in CDL school...new drivers seem to be incapable of doing basic mathematics to determine whether or not a driving gig is worth their time. I ran the math for a couple different Schneider and Swift dedicated accounts. The average driver (in my area) would have literally been better off going to Wendy's and flipping burgers.
blairandgretchen, mickimause and Shaggy Thank this. -

My issue is new drivers want the dedicated accounts for the home time ( he said to get back to yard ) but they want the pay of an OTR driver. They fail to realize that with home time you give up pay. Besides running out of 14 doesn't mean you worked the whole 14.
stevep1977, EggoTrucker, mickimause and 6 others Thank this. -
Op, I work at SNI. Dedicated too. I knew the pay was crappy when I signed on.
So why did I sign on? Because of all of the companies that'd help me get my foot into the door, SNI had the best options for me.
When you're new, expect to get the crap. Take your lumps, put in your time and move on if you're so inclined.
This is industry is like any other industry. There's a hierarchy and a caste system. You gotta work your way up. The big difference is, in other industries it's harder to tell when you're getting screwed over. At least SNI was nice enough to HONESTLY lay it out on the table for you. That's more than Swift, Werner or other companies would even think to give you.
Sorry if I sound harsh, but I've had my fair share of jobs that screwed me over. I stuck it out because I knew it'd look good and pay off later. I worked at a local retail grocer/pharmacy prior to this for 7 years. I was paid roughly 3-4$ per hour under the state average (11.50$/hour, at the moment I'm ######## gold eggs.) I took my lumps and moved on.
That being said... SNI is a good company. BUT YOU HAVE TO EARN THE GOOD!Mictrucking, Dreamshadow, 30-aught-6 and 1 other person Thank this. -
mickimause Thanks this.

Heh. I almost always run out my 14. Pulled in tonight after getting loaded at a shipper with a whole 6 minutes left. Rarely do I actually work the full time, some days I do. But that's why I usually say, "run out my 14."
I used to do 12 hour days. Often with no break. Two "extra" hours even if I do work them isn't much to me anyway.
It *does* get a little old, primarily because there's not a great deal of down time between loads and, at least my stuff, is ready only within a couple hours prior to when I need to leave. It adds pressure that newbies perhaps shouldn't be dealing with starting right off. This is likely why most dedicated accounts want a year of experience. -
Started with Schneider on a dedicated Wal Mart account 6 1/2 years ago. 0.32 a mile $15 a stop and $30 for backhauls. I usually brought home around $700 a week after taxes while most of the time being home every other night.
With that being said, alot of experience guys wouldn't think twice of working for 0.32 mile. You can't run before crawling, should of sucked it up for a few months and went from there. But hey, now your jobless, probably with a tuition you gotta pay back. Good Luckmickimause Thanks this.
