I've spent a fair amount of time on the road since I got my CDL in 2006 but took the last 5 years off from any kind of commercial driving. Gonna be giving this a try as my options were limited. Dedicated run out of McCalla for Home Depot. Just looking for some pros and cons from your own opinions I'll form my own opinions as I go but I'm just curious specifically about this route and vs OTR. Thanks

Home Depot is the worst. I refuse to shop there anymore due to the treatment of truck drivers. I did their stores for about six months. Hated it. If your going to the stores be prepared to sit until your appointment time. Most won't no matter how early you get there and most times you will sit even if there is no other trucks there. If its 15 minutes before your going to sit 15 minutes and so on. I had to sit at one from 8 am to 4 pm all day by myself, no trucks came in, until it was my appointment time for 15 minutes of unload. Just not nice folks in other ways too. Talk about being looked down upon. Now that was 5 or 6 years or so ago they may have change. If I had a choice it would be Lowes much nicer folks.

Almost downtown Chicago. Apt. time 12 am. Due to how hard it was to get in and out. Dock guy refused to unload said I was late. Explained that the apt time had been changed. Then he claimed it was past unloading time even though the posted times were between 12 am 4 am. Pointed that out. He said that wasn't valid anymore and the times had been changed. Long story short he refused to unload it. Had to sit over night which made me late for the next two stores that day. So morning comes around. I go back in and now the day shift refused to unload because I was late....??? Night guy said I never showed up.... After many phone calls and a hour later they finally unloaded it. Mind you I was the only truck there the whole time.
Too many stories just like this I could go into but won't.
    Maybe you'll have better luck.

Yep, another good reason to go with tankers. I went through garbage like that pulling dry van and reefers, but never ever had a problem pulling tankers. Those old hag women at K-marts were some of the worst.

No dedicated account hauling cabinets to both Lowes and Home Depot. One load for usually three stops or four to one or the other usually different one every other week. Used to cringe every time I say one to Home Depot. Lowes has a saw for 50 bucks. HD has one for 10 the exact same make and model? I going to Lowes and spend the 50.

But then again they may or may not have changed since then. Who knows. I can only relate to what I experienced with them. Get there, don't forget your paper work or they will not talk to you at most places, hand it over. They will usually come an get you when its your appointment time. If thats five hours away expect to see them at 5 hours. They have a set schedule they have to do in a day and they usually follow it. No real incentive to complete a days work early I guess. Just they way they are. Lowes is hit and miss. Usually they will take you early if they are not busy unloading other trucks.

Thanks for the info. I know it may not be the best job or run, but I know it's not the worst. Lol. I'll put in my time draw my paycheck. Reckon that's what they're hiring to do. I'm a noob when it comes to over the road so I don't expect the best. My Dad just retired from Linde in Birmingham, by far the best job he worked but he had to endure the time away from home and struggles getting paid by other companies to get there. Gotta be patient and pay ya dues.

1Girl1Truck just went to the Choice program from that Home Depot account. She didn't say anything bad about it.
