Trying to expand the pool of potential drivers because they are running out of people willing to work this job for the little money they want to pay. A lot of drivers who started driving in the 70s are retiring and those of us a generation behind them are skilled and demand better pay. Easier to get less experienced drivers and pay them less. Even with the risk, the companies will still make boat loads of money and the freight will move. A few wrecks are factored in to their profit projections. Sad.

The article is BS in my opinion because 18 year Olds can drive intrastate to get a couple years experience if they are interested in becoming a truck driver.

The only reason they want to lower the age limit is to bring in cheaper drivers and to bolster the union companies. The union driver gets ready to retire and his spot goes to his 19 year old son or daughter.

Again it's my opinion and everyone has one but if y'all would adopt mine we'd all be better of........lol

I am only kidding so don't run me off the net.

If you're ever in Salt Lake City do yourself a favor and have breakfast at Alice's...easy to find and if you cannot find Alice's how did you ever become a driver? Yes it's that easy...

Great food and not unreasonably priced.

Mostly not lies...but there is that one hyperbolic gem thrown in to give me a hard case rep..Ferret is big into UFC.

On further reflection...if I did see someone scratching graffiti on a toilet seat I might allow my actions to dip into my karmic account and push the boundaries. I usually try and work within the accepted rules but I have been known to get a little chalk on my cleats.
I'd use my wits and save my biceps for 16oz curls.:biggrin_25520:

    UFC is cool with me.
But I'm just a out of shape ex soldier..so it has to be quick and dirty.
Not worried about being beat down..we all take our lumps in life.
I do make sure to leave a lasting impression though..like a limp or eye patch.

The other day a newish driver was talking about having to go to Indy for training with his 2016 Freightliner. It's an automatic and he is being given this tractor as a last resort due to his high number of critical events (5 in one day and an average of one a week)...as he explained it, his dbl said he needed to do this or he would be let go.
Does anyone else question the thought processes involved that gives/rewards a new driver, one of marginal driving ability, a brand new tractor worth 100k?

Forget firing his ### - shove a spike up him and mount him at the gates to each OC and major drop lot in rotation. As the French say - pour l'ecourament des autres.
