So I don't have much time before I obtain my CDL. Now, I have to make a decision between the tanker division (terminal in Gary, IN--50 min away) and intermodal division (terminal in Chicago --15 min away from my home) I hope to start with Schneider by March. I'm just trying to factor in travel times, gas expenses, tolls, etc. Any suggestions? Any input is greatly appreciated, stay safe out there!!

Hi dog c is right. But I've pulled both. Intermodal can be a pain. 1 hard to find in alot. No two ports have same in/out
procedure. Also they can be heavy where you can't scale it legal. Tank as a rule won't let you leave overweight

If you do run bulk/tank you'd be able to park at the Qualawash which is located around 103rd and I-94 bishop ford freeway. Don't have to go all the way to Gary, and they'd probably prefer that you park at the tank wash anyway since that's where all the clean trailers are. Plus there probably are a decent number of local jobs in the Chicago market if you wanted to eventually be home every day.

In regards to intermodal it would probably be the same deal as far as local opportunities go. I think tanker would have more earnings potential but also more responsibility involved.

If you want to be home more often, indermodal. You can be home a few times a week if your smart with your hours.

    intermodal forsure.

it could be a pain, headache and feel sad/depressed but it gets ya home and it pays pretty darn good when your with the right company. i see your based out of chicago (that's where im at aswell) and i do intermodal. there is about 1,000 intermodal carriers in illinois/chicago alone. be very careful with whom you chose. i can tell you that TTR does not have much info based on intermodal carriers in chicago so if ya need any advice, hit me up in a private message buddy.

also check out the intermodal forum... will be very helpful!
