Freight rates and capacity over here at LS is stinking up the joint too at the moment. Slow time of the year and fuel is my reasoning. Love periodically checking in on you choice guys different threads, thanks for not making it a "My company is better than your company threads" like the other guy did. Y'all be safe.

I'm doing fine with rates so far BUT it's required me to be on the load board every time I stop. The good loads get taken in seconds and it better you that jumps on it.
Today I'm picking up a load in North Jersey going to near Atlanta for $1.62 to the truck at about 800 loaded miles at 18k. Lucky as heck but the only reason I got it is because I booked it within one minute of it showing up on the board.
Yeah buddy me and refresh button are best of friends lol

Hey fw can you give me some info on the trucks? I'm trying to figure some things out and what the best way of getting my own truck and having the freedom. What's the down payment on the 680's or the Pete 579? Including the cascadia can you give me a breakdown of the trucks up for lease + payments? I was adding up a new truck at lone mountain and if SNI is similar it would be easy doing that plus I get the FREEDOM, and im starving for that lol. AppercIate any info broskie.

The best deal here is to simply get a brand new freightliner on a one year lease because it is a one year lease.. you get to drive a brand new truck and "see how you like it here" kind of a deal.
They aren't about locking you into anything or taking advantage of you that's why they offer a one year lease so you can walk away if you're unhappy.
Anyway off the top of my head a brand new company spec freightshaker on a one year lease is $1000 down (but you get $1400 into your maintenance account from Schneider as a bonus for signing on with me new truck) and it's something like $720-$730 a week for the truck. When you start off they give you two weeks without payments.
I almost went with that but I hated Freightshakers too much to do it lol. Plus they don't come with an APU, that's extra $$$$ up front where was the KW already has one.

My new Kenworth was $5000 down $3k of such was a security deposit which is doubled to me at the end of the lease which means if I walk away or get a different truck I have $6k coming to me.
Truck payment is about $780 a week for 3 years and at the end of the 3 years I'll have the option to buy it for $59k.
It's not the best deal in the world but it's not bad either.. thing is they make it real easy for you to get into a truck and they'll work with you.

At lonemountain for example a Freightshaker costs $2500 a month for 60 months after $14k down. Sure it's cheaper weekly than a Schneider lease but you have to realize you put $14k down AND at year 4 of the term at lonemountain you'll still owe $60,000k on the truck and still have that $2,500 a month payment on a truck nearly out of warranty.
By me leasing the truck through Schneider at the end of 3 years I'll have the option the buy my Kenworth for $60k also pretty much BUT what's cool about it is if the truck is causing me trouble I can just get rid of it but if it's been great to me I can buy it.
I know I wouldn't want no $2500 a month payment on a truck out of warranty for another year or two if it hasn't been good to me.
All just a bunch of different things to consider.

what you must realize is you are NOT going to get those great kinds of rates running reefer at UZ over here but I'm sure you already know that.
I can be lazy and do $1.50 all miles here looks like just by staying in okay areas.
Getting more than that is where the :homework: comes in.
For example my last 5 loads took me from St. Louis to the Northeast region to 50 miles from Atlanta and I'll be at $1.85 all miles which is awesome considering that includes this 800 mile weekend load from by Jersey City to pretty much near Atlanta which I deadheaded 94 miles to get.
However I had to work my butt off on the load board to pull all that off.

Great info man I appreciate that, and you made some good points. When your OUT of the northeast what is a safe average your seeing money wise? Are there lots of loads under 1.30? And final lol if I ran smart, and all that jazz would you say it's possible to clear 1,100 a week?

If you stay in WI, IL, IN, KY, TN, OH, MI don't mind taking short loads as in up to 400 miles you can do very well. At least very well for being a Schneider flease driver lol jk
    There's lots 100-300 mile loads paying $2 a mile+ ... sometimes you'll see even higher as in $3+ a mile for 100 mile loads.
I did a load from Louisville to North Vernon, IN which is around 70 miles and it paid $4.55 a mile and was drop and hook at both ends. I did that load twice already since I've been here.
As long as you stay in those states and never take a load leaving there you'll always see good paying short loads.
Sure you can take a load out only if you see a load paying okay coming back into that area.
The trick to do well at least my plain from what I see is to stay in good areas and just take those short loads

    Do the math..

Lets say you can stack on higher paying short loads and just do 2200 a week at $1.75 all miles which is very doable what does that come to?
    $3850 gross
2200 miles divide by say 7.2 MPG X $2.6 a gallon (we get .43 cents off the cash price at Pilot/Flying J) you're looking at about $800 in fuel then + $1100 in ALL your fixed costs

$3850 gross - $1900 in all costs and you're all $1950 for the week before the tax wizard

An example of a day I did recently.. I was in St. Louis area.. picked up in Edwardsville, IL and went to Louisville, Ky
It was about 310 miles at $1.42 all miles..
I took that load because it brought me to that $4 a mile load going to North Vernon, IN which paid me about $3.98 on about 80 all miles

So that day I did 390 miles at $758 gross or $1.94 all miles
If I did that kind of run 7 days a week I'd be at 2700 miles at $1.94. $5238 gross and I'd be left with $3,150 after everything for the week.
I'm not saying it's easy to pull off but it is possible.

A thing to remember about the load board is most loads you're looking at are leftovers. My best paying loads I've gotten within minutes.. sometimes even seconds of the load posting.
Got this 800 mile load from Jersey to near Atlanta weighing 18k that paid $1.62 loaded miles.
Freaking miracle over here but the only reason I got it is because I booked it within one minute of it posting lol. I don't get paid for the 2+ hours a day I'm on the load board but it does PAY OFF at least so far.
Missed out on a load paying nearly $7 a mile in GA the other day that went 142 mile drop and hook at both ends. Heck I even saw a load in MA going to IA for $1.90... took a screenshot of those buddy for the trolls that say Schneider only has crappy rates. The challenge is the great paying loads goes super quick.
Use to I would see a great load and then... check the map for actual miles, do a trip plain on paper with times etc etc and then see loads coming out of that area. WELL after about 20 times of losing out on the great loads within minutes or sometimes even seconds I quit doing all that. On new hot loads that pop up you've got ZERO time to think at all.

I expect my commission check in the mail btw for giving away all these secrets and clues I've learned so far lol

    look man keeping it simple...
At Shaffer I had to kill myself and have no life to make $1200 a week

I can be extremely lazy here and do that even with taking cheaper freight.. plus have ALL the freedom and a Kenworth! Can't forget no dispatcher telling me I have to drive into a snow storm because the "load must be covered".
    Yeah don't miss those days.

Sure no problem man, you accept nickels and dimes, right? Lol. Really though I appreciate the info a lot. It sounds good and I've always had SNI on my mind, it's really frustrating trying to buy your first truck. That being said, leasing at SNI but still having total freedom is very appealing to me, I keep going back and fourth with what I should do. I can atleast say that I've been researching it for months now and I won't go into anything blind. I moved to Tennessee too, so I'm sure getting through the house for a 34 won't be any trouble (I used to live in fl) rates there are a complete joke.
