I'm starting this thread to give an updated 2015 style blog on the Charlotte IC orientation. I am (or was) a company driver moving over to IC.

MY TRIP FROM DALLAS TO CHARLOTTE

My last day of work was really on Thursday. Spent the night at the Dallas OC while I was up late cleaning out my truck. Man, I've inquired alot of junk over time. Got up Friday morning and ate breakfast with a good friend that I've made over the last 4 years. Awesome driver. Driven nearly 45 years. Needless to say, he is making some extra cash and delaying retirement. He just built a house outside of Houston, so he is kinda paying on that too....but I digress. I needed a ride from the Dallas OC to Dallas Love Field to pick up a rental car. Got a ride from one of my YouTube viewers. He was on our Masonite account and now he is moving up in the ranks and learning how to be a DBL. Proud of him. That is what he wants to do...he should go for it. Picked up a Dodge Charger for a rental. I had a choice between that and a Chevy Impala. I'm not a Dodge guy, but the car was awesome. Had one of those push button ignitions...I'm a country boy...I've only seen those in the movies...Went back to the OC and loaded up the car and off I went...

I live near Waskom Texas so I spent Friday night at the house. Had some bad weather. I grew up storm spotting with my mom, so I get excited when there is watches and warnings. I unloaded the car with the intent to take less to Charlotte than I came home with from Dallas. EPIC FAIL!!!!!

Saturday morning, I left the house around 10:30 central time. I set the cruise on about 73 and just enjoyed the ride. I really didn't expect to make it to Charlotte. I fully planned on getting a room on the other side of Atlanta. I made real good time. I only stopped twice before Atlanta. Once east of Monroe LA to get lunch and another to get gas just east of Jackson MS. Hardly any traffic at all until I got close to Birmingham AL. As I was passing Talladega, I started to think about how good of time I was making. I could make it to the hotel in Charlotte by midnight. So by gawlie...thats what I did. I stopped a couple of more times between Atlanta and Charlotte. Once for supper and the other to top my tank. I made it to Charlotte by midnight central time. Nascar was rained out so I listened to Caravan to Midnight, some good tunes on Hair Nation, and the Rangers game.

Checked in a night early and crashed. Cost me $61 tax and all to stay the night at the Extended Stay (the hotel that Schneider has us in). Woke up Sunday morning to get breakfast....I lol'd. Only thing they had out was wrapped muffins. No thanks. So I got in the Charger, and drove to Walmart. It was in walking distance really. Got some breakfast and some other things I needed. The rooms we have has a full kitchen. So if you come, you can bring steak and anything else you want.

I had to have the car back at 10:30 so I took it to the airport and got a taxi ride back to the hotel. Schneider has us use Diamond Taxi. Its paid for. So you call the number SFI gives you, and they will pick you up. Guy was cool...we talked about the weather and Dallas Cowboys football. What else is there to talk about?

Got back to the hotel and checked out of my room that I paid for and literally upgraded to the room we are provided by Schneider. It is double occupancy so be warned. As of 7:00 pm local time, my roomate has not showed up yet. I got all my stuff in my room and chilled out. Watched some NASCAR. Took a 5 minute nap. Uploaded a video.

They had us meet in the "lobby" for a short meet and greet. Not much to that. Just greeted eachother and lady told us what to expect on Monday. That was it. And that really sums up the trip.

A couple of useful tidbits that you will want to know. You have 4 options.
    1. Fly. They will reimburse a part of your airfare.
    2. Greyhound. They will cover 100% of that.
    3. Drive your POV. They will pay for gas. 100%? I'm not for sure.
    4. Rental car. They will give you 24 hours for each 500 miles. So if you have over 1,000 miles like I did, they will pay for 48 hours of use. If you go over 48 hours, you will pick up the remainder of the bill. You will also be responsible gas. Has to be full when you turn it in.

The hotel is an OK hotel. It is an extended stay, so there is some people I think that are living here. It has a full kitchen. Full size refrigerator, stove, microwave and sink. Has a flat screen TV with basic cable. Internet is sorta slow, but you can buy a faster speed. You can bring a dog for $25 a night.

So, tomorrow night, I will update y'all on DAY ONE of orientation...

Good luck! i have been doing this for 1 1/2 years. I usually read some posts and snooze. My best advice is to stay patient, flexible, consistent, and think outside the box. My original ideas never made much profit. I changed everything at six months and its been great! Welcome aboard!
