Here's a true story of a Legendary Empty trailer dispatch!
I'm sure if you've been with Schneider you know how lovely it can be when you need an MT.. but this story is for the ages! :headbang:

So a few days ago I was headed to Cleveland to pick up a load.. it was a preloaded trailer there waiting for me.
So I get there and I see another Schneider IC parked next to my load. He's waving looking at me all happy and excited and I'm like.. okay......
Anyway first thing he says is "hey do you have an Empty" when I said "yes" the look on his face was like he just saw Jesus.

    He tells me this story...

"So I dropped my load here and there was no MTs, I'm supposed to be picking up a load tomorrow just an hour south of here.
Schneider sent me a dispatch to go over 500 miles away to Charlotte to pick up an empty!
I sent them a message and then called them.. when they answered the phone I told them to tell the box planners they're not supposed to drink the bong water but he didn't understand what I meant.
I told him 500 miles for an empty trailer! He said there's no empties around in the area, you need one and that's the best we got but we'll look again and get back to you."

Supposedly that conversation happened a little while before I arrived and he didn't hear anything back from Schneider.

Anyway after hearing all that I was like WTF... uh okay?
The driver was really into it and said really look you've got to see this!
I kinda felt this sounds ridiculous so okay I gotta see this sooo I go on qualcomm and look....

    Next I'm.... :laughing-guffaw:

While lmao I said "this is too good do you mind if I take a picture of this"
The driver said go right ahead I don't mind.

Now I know some of you probably think no way and won't believe me so here's the pics I took. I blocked out info of the load and the dudes name just cause I ain't gonna put that out in public.

Now we both knew that was BS.. the place I just came from had empty trailers and it certainly was closer than 500 miles away lol.
Schneider however said there's none in the area! Just a little homework and they would have seen I was on my way to drop an empty there shortly!
Me and this driver ended up talking for a couple hours and ragging on Schneider a little bit.
We shared how much we enjoy using hammers just to use the dolly handles and how the 10 + year old trailer tandems never slide and are broken.
He called them the TA9 **** series trailers lol.
Anyway there's more to this story including the trailer I dropped having the tandems broken lol but that's enough.
He was a nice person though and been with Schneider since I was in like freaking middle school.

Point being... if you're having a bad day and get sent on a empty trailer hunt remember this and be glad it's not for 500 miles lol.

Hey, mossc (or 48Packard) and I have both done 500 mile trailer searches. Yeah it was in 30-50 mile hops, but at the end of the day it all adds up.

I mean it's one thing if you're in the middle of nowhere but Schneider has customers all around Cleveland. Plus no trailers closer than 500 miles? really? How lazy/not caring can someone be or just stoned lol.
Then again Schneider does mess up a bit, including on load pay which worked to my advantage multiple times so I really can't say anything lol

I haven't ever went that far.

    Here's a couple things I've learned...

1: Dropping a trailer at nights or weekends in some places especially the Northeast leaves for by far the greatest chance to get screwed on the empty.
The reason is because many drivers came in earlier, dropped loads and took out the empties. Loads won't be unloaded during business hours etc etc.
You learn places that are like this.. a couple examples are the Walmart DCs in Sharon Springs and Tobyhanna. I know if I go in there on weekends I'm not getting an empty lol.

When you run long enough you start learning the areas and being there's many many repeat customers it helps you out a lot.
Also if you've been somewhere nearby that has tons of empties, forget Schneider go to that location and get one.

2: What I always do first thing is I CALL and ask if I can bobtail in to get my load, of course that doesn't work if I booked a live load but most everything I do is drop and hook.

A question for a current Schneider driver, if they send you on a empty run for 500 mi which is stupid don't you still get paid for the 500 mi. If so just laugh it up and make and easy 500 mi run bob tailing I guess

A company driver would get paid mileage.
Choice driver.. well they showed us a pay scale but it didn't go that high lol.
500 miles should be $500 for an empty search but heck I never even left the Northeast before for less than $1.40 all miles so forget that.
Maybe coming out of Colorado $1 a mile would be great though lol.

Yes and no, you get paid for it, same stupid way we get paid for everything being on the hhmg which ends up driving for free up to a hundred miles. Then you get the emjoyment of showing up at the shipper late, and they take it out on you because cs never notified them of the delay. I've gone thru that delight 3 times in the last few weeks and just smile and say not my fault.
