Well Im just looking for something in writing that says what you mentioned above from SNI about their inverters and what is allowed and not allowed. There used to be something on the crossroads and now there isnt.

Hi capnhector, I am starting training with schneider in april in the bulk division. I was wondering if you couldnt answer a few of my questions, and any additional info would be greatly appreciated. I'm just nervous because all of the stuff you read about on here, and dont want that to be the case for me. I'm looking for a good long term career.

1. What is the home time like in tanker?
2. Are the tanker allowed to bring trucks home?
3. Do you think this is a good company to start with?

1. not exactly sure but can find out exactly think its 2 weeks out then you can get home for a couple of days

2. tanks haul alot of hazmat if you have a hazmat load you might need to use a schneider drop yard but your park location will be with in 50 miles of your house

the short answer is yes sni has the reputation for the best training in the industry however sni does have problems just like the other training companies. i like it because i have a great dispatcher who keeps me moving i have heard horror stories like "i never got home on time" which does happen "i sat for 5 days under a load" had a friend do that one but she was trying to get into canada and there were problems on the load and of course "i only get 1000 miles a week im bairly making money" if you follow the policy and relize sni has problems going in you will have the right attitude to make it in the industry

also where do you live i can look at the list of the sni droplots operating points and centers and see if i can find one

1) Depends on if you are regional or system. Regional, for the most part, works 5 on and 2 off but that's not guaranteed unless you put in for one of your 6 days per month off. Most of the Regional guys I know said that the weekends home is a pretty normal thing but once again not guaranteed uless you put in for the time off. Those of us in System work however we want to and are allowed 6 days off per month. If you want to work for three weeks straight and then take your days off all it once that's fine; it's all up to you.

2) Bulk does not allow you to take your truck home. I've heard plenty of reasons for this and they all make sense; kinda. Depending on where you live, they will have you park either at an OC or a tankwash that they have an agreement with to park trucks at. Tell me your location and I'll tell you if there is a tankwash that I know of.

3) So far I like the company and being that I had no experience before I hired on and joined the Bulk Divison I'd say the training is great!

Hi again capnhector, I was thinking about the otr van hauling with sni. What's you input on that verses bulk? Whats the hometime like, How much freight do they hand unload, etc.....?

The Schneider website says they pay on book miles. Is that still true? Many companies have converted to practical miles and I am wondering if Schneider has done so yet.

If not, then that might be the reason that many drivers feel the pay is lower and why they are leaving to go elsewhere.

they pay you the for the SHORTEST freaking route possible, you are allowed 12% out of route (basically if you have a 1000 mile load, you can drive 1120 miles to get it there without getting in trouble)

i've literally gotten some directions from them that was close to 4 pages long, and i started and ended on the same damn interstate

i dont even bother reading the directions anymore, I just let my GPS do all the work (just make sure you check the route the GPS gives you to make sure you wont end up on a restricted road) or trying to drive under a bridge with 10ft clearance

Well I thought it was 10% out of route that was allowed. I can't remember how they tried to sell us that line but it was a load for sure. Basically it was along the lines of "we know you are going to get lost, or oculd get lost, so we add the 10% in there for you as a cushion". But I think they were trying to tie it into a reply of a question someone asked about pay, if they got paid for every mile. You get paid for the Household movers guide miles, not for the miles you actually drive...so when you think about it...you are going to physically drive more miles than the HMG pays you, which then eats into your OOR percentage.
