I graduated from trucking school this past April and haven't found a job yet. I had one company just today tell me that getting a new driver insured is the biggest issue. It seems to me that if insurance companies are making it that hard to hire new drivers then companies are eventually going to run out of drivers in the future. How can anyone gain experience if they can't get hired. Catch 22, it seems. Anyway, I really need a job. I live in Delaware and am not able to relocate. But I am able to travel for a few weeks at a time if the pay is ok. I am willing to sacrifice some pay to help offset the cost of insurance but I do have to cover daycare expenses and make something to pay the bills. I'm not looking for $60,000 to start. I'll go as low as $30,000 just to get some seat time. I have a current DOT medical card, clean DMV record, a TWIC and hazmat that doesn't expire until 2018, and tanker. I can verify my school, I just don't have experience. I've applied to everything from the mega carriers to Joe Blow's Paving but have yet to get one response. I don't understand how big rig companies can ask for 6 months OTR and the dump truck jobs ask for 3-5 years. I've driven a dump truck, they are easy! Does anyone know what gives with them asking for so much experience? Bizarre! Anyway, I'm open to just about anything but I'm tired of getting BS promises. If anyone needs a driver I'm ready. But I don't accept promises, just a real job. The games are getting old real fast. Thanks!

What companies have you applied to?Stay away from the ones that require exp. There are more then enough starter companies that will hire you.Prime,Central,Stevens,Werner an many many more.

Keep looking and applying! I hired a new driver right out of school and turned out to be a good driver.

I started out with con-way truckload they were a really good company to start with they start you out at .30/m and by the end of your first year you can be at .36/m which isn't bad for someone with no exp if I was to decide to go back to a big company otr they would be my first choice plus they put new grads thru a week school in Joplin that you get paid for and meals and you get to run a truck on a skid pad while in school

You should get responses from all big carriers. If not, do a background check on yourself to see if something is there that shouldn't be.....something doesn't sound right.

hey if your looking for a job that pays good and you are basically home everyday try looking into mail hauling go to the main post office like the one off of rt.40 near the flea market and ask some of the contract drivers if there company is hiring. there trucks normally just say US MAIL just stop one of them they are generally friendly . or go on indeed.com they have alot of jobs dont give up brother

Did you try some of the container companies out there? When I start I just hung around a North American yard when I had free time, eventually they gave me a chance to get in their truck and that was that. So, maybe you have a friend or so who knows a small company that might give you a break. I know how it is, thousands every week get their CDL and can't get hired. Its too bad that so many companies are half-run by insurance companies. When I came back from overseas, got my CDL again, (after 23 years of driving previously) no large or medium sized company would hire me. All that experience means nothing to them, and most won't touch you if you don't have a least a year recent- no matter if you have been driving 40 years.
I would suggest a ma and pa operation too. Sometimes they are a bit shady, but at least if you have a good attitude and stick it out for year, you can go to many other companies. There are also lots of tanker companies that will train you if you have the CDL...I think one is Trimac? Try some of these things. -
