If you're competent and have a modicum of common sense, try Bruenger. I've been here for almost three years and they treat me well. Must be something to it, since I hate reefers.

There is a dry bulk company named CTS and I worked for them back in 2010-2011. The dispatchers were friendly and down to Earth. It has a small company feel. The work isn't the best, since you unload the trailer and would have to learn that, but I'm sure they're probably looking for drivers. You could also be home during the week or at least on weekends most of the time.

 

I'm with LTI trucking and we have 205 trucks in our fleet. We're adding 127 new trucks to our fleet for 2015. We are a regional carrier that runs primarily throughout the midwest. We do have 50 trucks in a dedicated operation that goes to the east coast and back. All of our trailers are van and reefers. For 2015 we're raising the pay on all of our drivers. On top of that we offer a minimium pay program so that if weather shuts you down for a period of time (like last year) that you're guaranteed at least $900 every week regardless of the number of miles you driver.

We're based out of St Louis and are often in the Wichita area which would provide you good home time.

I live in Mississippi. Is bruenger lease purchase any good, will you actually survive. Also by me living in Mississippi do you have an idea of what the h/t may be.

 

I'm not on the lease purchase. I bought mine from Butch Bruenger before he retired, but I have friends that are on it and are doing quite well. In fact, one of my frinds just told me his settlement for the week was around $3500. It all depends on you, the IC. I also have friends that are struggling, but it's mostly because they haven't been running it like a business and still act like a mega-carrier company driver and have it in their heads that they are paid tourists. As for home time in MS, I can't say for sure because I don't run down that way, but we have quite a lot of freight that goes down that way (MS, AL, LA, GA, etc...).

 

call van wyk inc in sheldon ia and ask for tim , they have a terminal over in great bend ...i lived in joplin when i drove for them and they were super about keepin me busy and getting me home ...nice trucks too !....they thought nothing of sending me home empty out of kc or emporia then when i was ready to go again they would bounce me out to dodge city or great bend to pick up a trailer goin east ....if my personal life hadnt gone in a different direction id still be there ...great people !
