The position is still open, but I have narrowed my choices down to 2 drivers out of 27 applications. If either of those drivers changes their mind, I will reconsider other applications.

I rember once a driver that logged 10 hours from I believe Butte, MT to Des Monies, IA. FYI, that's 1,220 miles. I asked the driver what he was thinking.... His answer "Hot load." I guess so, unfortunately he was delayed an additional eight hours.

Then there was the team drivers that logged good starting and stop points for each day, but forgot to calculate the speed between stops. If the speed limit is 55 mph and your speed beteen stops is 60 mph you have violated Part 392.2 for speeding. No, it's not a movig violation, it's a safety violation.

Of course there was the carrier that allowed a driver to log 11 hours for a run that required 11.5 hours to make, the carrier was cited for Part 392.6 for sceduling a run that required the driver to speed.

Loose leaf or not, discovering false logs is done:

Quote:
1 9/5/2007 IL-2007-371 Compliance Review

392.6Scheduling a run which would require exceeding speed limits 5 $9,450.00

395.8(e) False reports of records of duty status 7 $5,250.00

1 5/8/2008IL-2008-108 Compliance Review

382.305(b)(2)Failing to do random drug tests at applicable annual rate 6 $28,320.00

390.35 Requiring, permitting or making false statements or records. 1 $5,730.00

395.8(a) Failing to require driver to make a record of duty status 19 $15,770.00

396.11(c)Failing to correct Out-of-Service defects reported on DVIR. 3 $27,720.00

1 1/31/2008 IL-2008-35 Compliance Review

172.800(b)Offering or transporting w/o a security plan conforming to Subpart requirements 1 $8,770.00

391.45(b)(1)Using a driver not medically reexamined each 24 months 3 $5,190.00

395.8(a) Failing to require driver to make a record of duty status 18 $18,000.00

395.8(e) False reports of records of duty status 20 $20,000.00

396.21(b)Failing to retain periodic inspection report for 14 months 9 $6,120.00

2 5/23/2006 IL-2006-77 Compliance Review

385.13 (a)(1)Operating CMV after effective date of Unsat rating (no placards HM/Pass) 2 $9,480.00

395.3(a)(2)Req./perm. property CMV driver to drive after 14 hours on duty 5 $22,900.00

1 10/19/2006 IL-2006-64 Compliance Review

395.8(e) False reports of records of duty status 160 $124,800.00
Big or small the records tell the story. During a compliance review 30 days of logs are examined with ALL supporting documents. Not so easy to hide the false logs.

No logs? No problem there's a fine for that too.

No supporting documents? No problem there's a fine for that too.

Drivers that operate beyond the HOS face jail time, law suits, and loss of their jobs to name a few problems. It's amazing how many carriers are willing to dump problem drivers when the DOT shows up.

Be safe.

Not at all. I'm not sitting around answering phone calls all day for my health.

I would say that the opposite is happening. The driver I had chose just took another job tonight. Apparently "meet you tomorrow morning" means "I'm taking the job in case my other applications don't get picked up." He got a call, I guess. Here kitty kitty kitty.... find a new driver. Hence, despite "filling the seat" unofficially, I knew better then to say the job is not available. Things happen, and there is no reason to say I'm the boy that cried wolf because 3 or 4 of the 29 (and counting...) applicants are huddled in this thread. I'm sorry, there is only one seat available. Most people would not call it an experiment if only one driver gets the job. I no longer can accept a team.

Because of the fact that my truck was abandoned and left for dead in an undisclosed location, while burning thousands- yes thousands in fuel before officially quitting...right after paying $3500 in sales tax and registration fees, and $3,500 in repairs over 2 months, stealing $430 from the fuel card, I can't write any outrageous checks.

My company needs a driver that can drive for $250/week for up to 8 weeks. After that, $1,000+/week pay is expected, based on a 20% of Gross Pay Scale.

Much has changed over the last week that the job was first offered, and I'm either finding a driver who can tough it out with me after being wronged by an unscrupulous employee, or the job disappears. There will be no false promises, this is all I can guarantee: A stable, weekly paycheck with no excuses. My number can be left on speed dial to answer your every beck and whim out on the road. You'll actually have the owner of the truck in your corner, rather than some recruiter that gets a commission with every driver being replaced. Job security. You won't be "laid off due to budget cuts" or held back via DAC from pursuing other companies. I'm honest, and that might be a problem because there are all too many companies making a killing decieving drivers into scam lease options and phony "high mileage" plans that go bunk. If you want something real, and your sick and tired of being strung along as a number in a corporate game, give me a call.

I have no problem letting the payments slide and giving the truck to the bank. The real shame is if there is a driver that would benefit from the job, that they might not speak up. Hopefully, I find an honest driver who just needs a fresh start. Those of us who are of little means need to be honest with ourselves as we collect our unemployment checks. We can pull ourselves up by the bootstraps, or we can pray that there is someone greater who will do things for us that we simply refuse to do for ourselves.

Hey Jason I've been self employed for over 20 years and I have yet to collect an unemployment check. Did'nt mean to step on your toes, I thought that you had said 600 per week. I know what you're going through about hiring an honest person, been there done that. Do I not have enough time behind the wheel or has it just been to long since I've driven? After all I did just finish the refresher course.
