Who knows..... Honest as bad as some of us need work and are thinking of your offer. I almost have to say it would be better to RUN FOR THE HILLS! Since it seems your already in debt. Your bad deal with the other driver should not have to affect a new driver. If you honestly don't have funds to handle the problem you should think of keeping it parked and not dragging a already disparate starving driver into your problems. Its just not right. I like others do appreciate you being honest with us. Just food for though no hard feelings....
I appreciate your input. It is true I don't have to get a driver to take the offer. I can let the truck get repossessed and we can all guess what would have happened. For some, the thought of not doing anything to improve life is repugnant when weighed against the idea that you might have worked a few weeks for less than you would have if trucking jobs were plentiful. I have filled the position. The driver is very grateful, and I wish him the best of luck. I believe it will work out very well for him.

I hope the driver who has accepted your position doesn't regret it. I have read this thread from the beginning and I find $250 a wk insulting!! You get what you ask for, you are asking someone to live on $250 a wk w/a promise for better pay later on. That's probably why your truck was abandoned. I would never accept this kind of arrangement or expect for someone (good driver) to work for me for what you offered.
You say the pay will depend on the loads the driver finds after the 8 wk period of you finding them. So you take a huge percentage of the $ for finding the freight. So I suppose this 8 wk period is for you to train the driver where too find the freight. And you pay yourself for the instructions. That's a long and expensive orientation. I guess the driver also pays for transportation to your or the trucks location.

Then after the 8 wks, the driver is driving, finding the freight you just sit back and collect the cash. Oh, I forgot you are just a phone call away. Does this cost each time the driver needs you. My 23 yrs in this industry (driver, dispatch supervisor, recruiter and my own business) tells me too run for the hills on your proposition. Sorry too say, but you appear to be on the Swift,C. R. England and Werner level.

Just my long winded 2 cents worth !!!!!

This position may be opening back up. A preventable collision that possibly costs me thousands and a close call on a major traffic infaction/ impounding of my truck, along with many, many less major expenses in the first 2 weeks means there isn't much hope for the guy. If every company in the world has it as policy to let you go, I can't afford to be the only guy that doesn't.

I'd prefer a team, and I already have a few people in mind. The pay is higher than before, and the rules regarding MVR and experience are tightened:

2 years or more experience, clean MVR, has own cellphone, lives anywhere in Midwest, South or East Coast, other than New England states. Smoking ok, even in the truck. Criminal history should not be a problem, but is subject to approval.

Pay is 5% of gross per driver for all loads for 4 weeks, followed by 8% for another 4 weeks, and finally 10% OR MORE, depending on performance.
