| My name is Jerry. I am 33. i do not drink, smoke or do drugs. I have 2 boys ages 2 and 12. I have been on NYS unemployment for almost a year now. I graduated from NTTS in July of 09 and now have my enhanced CDL-A. I have been applying everywhere to only be turned down for many reasons as I am sure many others are. I am in search of a O/O that will take me in and get me the experience I need to get a job driving. Thats all I want.. You can treat me like ####, pay me very little compared to norm, keep me away from home for long periods of time.. In return you will get a eager to learn driver that will take all you dish and keep on trucking. I will dedicate one year of whatever it takes to get the experience I need. My family is strong in supporting me in this. Yes this is very pathetic and yes I am begging. I do not want to go back to a dead end local job. I have dreams with my family and want to make them happen. If anyone can help me out please send me a pm. ty for reading this in the least and prob getting a good laugh out of it. | he can get PM's but he can't send them. so send him an email or phone number. Why are you being turned down? no offense but the last guy who gave me this line I was thinking about taking on to run team turned out he had three speeding tickets in two years. all over 20mph over the limit. no insurance company would touch him with a 50 foot pole

| I would be all over that trucking school, why aren't they helping you??? What is an "enhanced CDL" ? Did you try CR England, you will have to team up to start and probably pay for a so called "refresher" course (i think its an insurance requirement). They do not have a good reputation on this board, but you can work for em for a year (or maybe even 6 months) and then move on to somthing else.

| I forgot to add: and owner-operator will not likely be able to hire you because of your lack of experience, the insurance may be through the roof and I dont know if any o/o could afford that.

| Well Jerry, I wish you the best of luck, and I really don't think anybody is going to be laughing over your thread. There are way to many of us who have been in some type of similar situation. That being said, I have to agree with others on here. I doubt that you are going to find a O/O who is going to take you on. They may have a heart, but they also have a small business to run. You mentioned something about "dead end local jobs," so I am assuming that you have SOME driving experience, even if it is aggregate dump truck or cement mixer. This might help you get a LTL local, (pick up and delivery) where you might be able to work into a line haul job. It is damned hard work, but the money is good and you are home every night. If you really have your heart set on OTR, then go ahead and try to get on with one of the driver mills if you have to, just to get the experience.

| Best of luck to you. Insurance is a killer... this will be my first year having all my drivers above the 2 year experience mark and I can't afford to go back.

Jerry, you haven't received any response from any of the big carriers? Is there anything in the Cortland area? I know it sucks, but you're gonna hafta get some experience, and they are about the only ones that can absorb the risk of a new driver. After a year or two, you can start looking around for better options. Good Luck, believe me I know how crappy the economy is in your (and my Last edited by PFMJR; 3 Weeks Ago at 03.33 AM.. |

| I have been turned down for a few different things. One being I have been unemployed for 5 months within 3 years. I have been on unemployment for almost a year now. Another is my license. Untill about 3 years ago I did not care about much in life so the past haunts me. i have 1 suspension left for failure to pay a fine. the 3 year mark will be feb 12th next year. Werner said if not for that they would have taken me on. I do have 2 moving violations within 3 years but not speeding. I have 1 accident last summer where i hit a deer. cr england gave me a response to reapply in 6 months. I have been trying to call them and see if they would reconsider but something is screwed up with thier phone. I had a interview with a local company that knew up front that i had no experieence but they turned me down after for having no experience.. ok that made no sense. I honestly think it is because i am overweight. one thing there that sucks is people think if your a big guy you cant move.. Thats BS.. I am very active and not a couch potatoe. I also know that driving is hard when it comes to weight and I know what I would have to do and know I can eat right and exercise. I have a little boy of my own now and i am not gunna die from a geart attack on him.. I am not a shady guy at all, im very sociable and easy to get to know and like. called the school again yesterday and they are "trying" to find me something. I have had no driving experience local or anywhere.. dead end jobs was referring to like factorys etc.. I want a career not a job, and i want to beable to get somewhere with hard work and effort. I have family members who use to drive otr and loved it and made good money without the hard effort i want to give.. so i know i could make it. I know the ins companys are my worst enemies right now. I am not sure if its because the will not ins me or would charge my employer to much. if it is the charge to much I am willing to work for beans and peas just to get myself up there. I sold a few toys to beable to afford to go to school, i would sell the rest just to get my family by untill I make it.. Not sure what else to say.. If anyone at all would be willing to check me out let me know. If you are serrious i would be willing to drive to where ever you want to meet and I would work for a week free even.. Again i am desperate.. If you can not help me out or are afraid to, I understand and have no hard feelings what so ever.. I have learned the hard way to many times that being nice gets you screwed.. |

| OK Jerry, obviously my "assumption" was way off base. We all know about the word assume... Have you tried any local sand and gravel companies? They are bottom feeders, there is no question about that. But it just might give you a chance. However, if I read your last post correctly, you are still suspended. If that is the case, nobody in their right mind will hire you until the suspension is lifted, but I'm sure you already know that. Frankly, with the driving record you have posted, I don't hold out a lot of hope for you in the near future in any kind of driving job. I wish I could say otherwise, but I believe you need to face the facts. Dead end jobs suck, no question about that. OTOH, dead end jobs can put bread on the table and at least help with paying the bills. Good luck to you man, no matter what! Oh one other thought, about being overweight-which I am myself... You do know what to do about that, (as do I, if I could just motivate myself.) You and only you can make a difference there. I know first hand the feelings that go with being fat. You not only loose a lot of respect from a lot of folks, you tend to loose respect for yourself. It doesn't matter what skills you have, there is a certain percentage of folks that look at a fat person, and all they see is FAT! No, it isn't right, it isn't fair, but it IS life.
