    A/B in van nuys...
90% of the time they are perfect to deal with, but evey now and then they get a hair up their rear. Arrived at noon for a noon apt to dp/hk. Im over weight by 2500lbs. pull to their reload dock. 1.5 hours later im told to go re-weigh. Guess what? im over by 2500lbs.... go back to reload dock... an hour later, told to go check again... now im 2750lbs over.....::Sigh:: nice one.... go back to dock.... and now im standing by the back of my truck...to watch the forklift driver take 10 pallets off....and then put the SAME 10 pallet back on the freaking truck..... seriously? called their dock manager over to complain.....and he told me to go re weigh... finally after about the 5th or 6th time they get the hint, and remove a pallet. now im only 20lbs over.... heck with it, I will burn that in fuel by the time I get out of there.... total time wasted? 10 hours on what should have been a drop n hook.

Miller Irwindale.... arrived at 11am for a noon appointment. Live load... ok.... 5pm, still no dock... 11pm...still no dock... more than slightly annoyed, finally get a dock after telling the guys Im about to leave. 4am.... 1/2 loaded.... 6am.. fully loaded... snickering guy tell me to go try to get my trailer to balance. Stunned expression on his face when I go do so... why? they tried to play games by loading my trailer wrong. thing is, I forgot I had a 48ft, not our usual 53ft.... I signed it in as a 53.....so when they loaded my trailer "wrong" for a 53...they got it perfect for a 48ft... hehehehehe.... Not a chance in heck i could make the delivery time of 8am 350 miles away though... ended up having to sit on the load for 4 days before it got unloaded. I refuse to pull for them anymore.

roadrunner somewhere in the LA area...dont remember exactly where, but it was by a train terminal. About the closest I have ever come to loosing it and driving through a guard shack. Man that guy had an attitude problem. Started when i pulled on their lot, and stopped AT the stop sign next to their guard shack... the fat guard BLEW up SCREAMING at me and cussing because he couldn't read my truck numbers from his window... went downhill from there. by the time I was leaving, I had the BOL, the everything was signed for and sealed.... didnt really "need" to stop at the guard shack, on the way out...... so I didnt... and just drove by to the stoplight at the street, was fun to watch him waddle after me huffing and puffing, he got almost to my drivers door, the light went green, and I was outta there.
and no... I wont go back their either.
I ran a security company for over 10 years... I know what they can cant do, and there is very little that annoys me as much as security guards that think they are cops or god.... I used to fire those idiots when they tried that working for me.

UNFI in Chesterfield, NH. To be fair, they are trying to push more product through there than the facility can handle. BUT they don't give a flying fig about the truckers who are getting screwed trying to deliver to them. In the receiving office, the guy in charge has a sign on the wall saying "schedules amuse me" right under a clock on which only the second hand ever moves. That attitude permeates the place. While I was there, there was a driver who was on his second day trying to deliver 3 pallets! They finally told him he was empty and when he pulled away from the dock he found 1 pallet of product still on his trailer. My experience was better, but I had a shuttle (only 20 skids) from 1 UNFI facility to another and it still took 5 1/2 hours. I kept telling them I had another load to pick up 120 miles away they were making me late. I think they hear that same refrain hundreds of times a day from different drivers because it didn't seem to register w/ them. When you sign in, they make you sign a paper saying that you won't pull away from the dock prior to being handed your delivery papers. After being unloaded for about an hour, having a green light on door and still no P/W, I checked to see that the dock door was down and the dock plate removed. They were, so in an effort to save time, pulled away far enough to see that I had my load locks, closed doors and backed back up to the dock. Was standing in receiving office waiting for papers about 45 min later and the head guy from the unloading crew came in and I overheard part of his conversation with the guy with the in-op clock saying the driver in door 3 (that was me, after first being directed to door 19) needed to get written up for something or other. I said "That would be me, what's the problem?" He started in on that I had pulled away to close the doors. I said I had a green light and had checked to see that the door was down and the plate up and was trying to save some time, to which he said it didn't matter. What if they wanted to put some rejected freight back on the trailer? I said "What part of "shuttle" don't you understand?" "It's your product, good bad or indifferent, it arrived here seal intact and you aren't putting anything back on my trailer. Making me wait while you count or sort or put the product away or whatever you're doing is just wasting my time. If there are discrepancies, take it up with your counterpart at your other plant. I have another load to go get so just give me my paperwork and I'll be on my way." He started saying I was gonna be banned to which my response was "Save yourself some time....you don't really think I'm coming back here for seconds do you?" In retrospect, I think maybe I'll book another shuttle sometime when I have lots of time just to see if they refuse their own stuff because I'm the driver.... Anyway, stealing time from a driver is the absolute worst thing you can do to him/her and it's apparent that this place and those people do it routinely and with utter disregard. My advice is either don't go there or be prepared to be screwed around.

    Sir or Ma'am,

I'm not yet a trucker but I wanted to know is this an O/O thing?

What I mean is obviously if you are the business owner you have the right to just leave the shipper if they give you trouble, but what about company drivers? Do fleet managers generally frown on this? (I realize that only certain circumstances would grant these behaviors).

You want to stay away from any nestles facilty as well as rock tenn. Have spent over 8 hours at each place this last week getting unloaded. They totally disregard the carriers hours etc. Wasted days. When is the government going to do something about the way these companies disregard the hours etc of carriers. This has to stop. Also the cambells food facility in napoleon Ohio should be avoided at all costs. My truck has been sitting at this facility for 6 hours and still is not at door when it arrived 45 minutes before appointment time. All these places fail to unload in timely manner despite being on time for appointments. Something has to be done and soon.

IMHO the last thing we need is more government interference. What has to happen is the carriers need to enforce their own detention policies and actually charge these folks. A lot of that gets slid by the way side. If the receivers and the shippers were charged $30 per hour after the second hour things would definitely change, but it needs to be all carriers or it will continue to be ignored. If the government steps in it will just get more fowled up. Let's face it, our government could screw up a good sneeze. Just my 2 cents.

My company charges somewhere in the neighborhood of $60 an hour to the mill we haul for. As drivers, we get $18 detention pay after the second hour, provided we are on time for the appointment, and/or left during allotted dispatch time. Traffic and weather delays are beyond our control and we buffer in kind to account for that . If I have a 3AM roll time for a 8AM delivery appointment, show up at 7:30, the clock starts ticking at 10:00. I get a flat fee for the delivery, and then the hourly rate kicks in after 2. I just write " receiver delay" on my trip sheet, we bill the flour mill and it rolls downhill from there. After a few charges to the receiver, they shape up fairly quickly.

This starts at the ground floor with the driver. If you are not getting paid to sit and wait, then you should find a company that does pay. Because the carriers won't charge if the drivers are giving them a free ride. And from what I see, a LOT of drivers are giving them a free ride and just whining about it.

Worst experience has always been WalMart/ Sams DC in Dayton, TX. Longest I've ever been there was 8 hours. And this was for a straight unload all palletized! Uggh

Hello to all professional drivers. As a driver (who delivers 99% frozen food cross the country) this was the huge issue from the start and still it is up to date and getting worth with no signs of slowing down or even small hope of getting better. I say this not because of 2 or 3 places I delivered or picked up the load but because of so many shippers&receivers with so many problems including waiting time(which to me is not greater then other problems as long as you get paid for). Not trying to be negative or cry baby here but{ FACTS ARE THE FACTS} and this problems hitting drivers left and right almost everyday without no mercy. The principles are if you are family oriented individual with sense of humor then you do your best to treat society with the same set of mentality not treat them like CRIMINALS or worth! If I want to name the shippers&receivers who had done that to me as a (TRUCK DRIVER) and to other fellow drivers which I witnessed with my own eyes or explained the details then I should be start writing a book which will hold a minimum of 5000 pages, so lets not even go there. The question is why they treat us like a CRIMINALS???I don't dress like criminals, I don't talk like criminals and certainly I don't behave or think like criminals so WHY???? If transporting goods to the warehouses for the usage of mankind is translated as CRIME then we need new translation ASAP.My first trainer once told me think like this: I MAY NEVER SEE THIS PERSON AGAIN OR THIS PLACE AGAIN,SO JUST FORGET IT AND MOVE ON! I tried and practice this advice like XTIMES but does It resolved anything?? Yes I'm making good money yes I am my own boss yes I have decent life and NO I am not quitting because of some evil attitude out there,BUT back to the trainer advice above which maybe works for lots of folks out there(That I am glad if it does). And it did worked for me here and there sometimes,But if my child one day want to be a TRUCK DRIVER do I like for him experience what I experienced???......And if I don't then what can I do in my part to better this situation??? May god protect you all.

This place is not driver friendly.
Not at all easy to count freight. But they refuse to accept SLC. In over 30-60 minutes to stand at window before they acknowledge a driver. Multiple trips back to the truck to get magic number which should have been in load assignment. Once they get the right magic number, they can't match the destinations. They can't keep a dock appointment. Many wasted hours for each driver. Suggest dropping this customer unless they can get their act together. Or unless our company is making an extreme profit from these guys, then just toss the driver a bonus for putting up with their crap. Also they take truck keys. Only reason any shipper does this is because they had a driver pull from the dock before they were done. But the only reason a driver would do that is if they did the driver wrong. Also, no over night parking after they rape your clock.
