Slip sheet load going to Food Lion

I had a slipsheet load of laundry detergent going to Food Lion DC in Dunn, NC. I'm figuring that it's not going to be too bad because I'm just not going to unload 44,000 lbs of laundry detergent by hand, soooooo.

Sure enough, it's "driver assist"...by this they mean that the driver gets to throw pallets for their forklift driver while he pulls the load out with the slipsheet machine.

I'm still thinking that this isn't going to be too bad....NOT.

Mr forklift driver...complete with bad attitude...brings 24 CHEP pallets to the unloading area and tells me that I'm to throw the pallets for him. No problem I tell him, but would he make 2 stacks instead of one. NO...says the driver. He then informs me that I'll..."Do it HIS WAY or I won't do it at all." Now don't get me wrong, I figured that throwing pallets was fair enough for me to do, I just wasn't willing to attempt to get pallets off a single stack that were taller than I am.....I'm 6'4"

Anyway, I tell him that's just fine with me, I'll accept his terms and just not do it at all. I went to my truck.

Enter the warehouse manager...knocking on the door of my truck...tells me that my company wants to talk to me on the phone. I tell them the story and am told to let them do it if that's their wish.

4 hours later, the truck's unloaded, the bills are signed and the warehouse manager tells me that I'm not welcome back at Food Lion.

Cost me about 3 extra hours, but to not be welcome back at Food Lion.

Priceless.

Mack E-6...

You truly have led a sheltered life.

A slipsheet machine is a type of forklift, but instead of skinny forks, it has much wider forks and a hydraulic mechanism that allows it to grab and pull slipsheets full of product onto the forks.

This allows shippers to keep their pallets and for the trucker to haul more weight in product. No pallet weight to worry about.

It also allows truckers to end up in the situation I was in...throwing pallets.

I love it. this is the best yet !!!!!! The best and not just guessing. I love it when I read this forum and find where the driver gets the best of some of the ones I got taken by when I was out there driving. I didn't have the wisdom or courage to fight the system. I needed my job too much. I lived in my truck for about 6 years and so I was very careful not to rock the boat to much. Bravo for you guys who stand up and fight.

Albertson's

I won't shop at their stores or set foot in any of their warehouses. I also spread the word too about how they treat everyone coming into their warehouses.

Another one is Assoc grocers -- Evil place.
