shippers
Hi! my husband is a truck driver. He owns his own truck. He is a grain hauler and works under someone elses authority We reside in Illinois. Within a year he plans to buy another truck and get his own authority. He wants to basically own his own trucking company. He wants to deal directly with the shippers and cut the middle man out no broker. I will be doing all the billing, paper work, tax misc. forms at the end of the year, and dispatching. Right now I have no clue of how to do this. Where can I learn all the stuff I need to in order to get this business going. Any advice will be helpful.

Keep up what you are doing for now.Pay attention to what is going on with the business end, ask questions of the folks you are leased to. Make contacts with shippers, receivers, other truckers, always do a favor to someone when you can, that helps build relationships that will get you work later. Get a reputation for doing a good job, learn to network. Find out about and join OOIDA. They have a lot of info for O/O's, and are very helpful in getting you started. Do not purchase another truck until you figure things out, very few people make more money when they add one more truck. just way more headaches.
