Just make sure it remains a choice

Just make sure drivers have the choice of unloading or sleeping. I know unloading has its benefits, but I'd never do it. I'd quit in a second if my company made unloading freight a requirement or if the lumpers suddenly disappeared.

As far as keeping my weight down, I wouldn't have to unload to do it. I'd simply take in 2200 calories a day max, with zero calories taken in between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day. That's a good way to bring one's weight down and keep it down.

And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

I'm not saying that all drivers HAVE to unload all loads regardless, what I'm saying is that it has become an instant cash cow and cash drain that doesn't need to even be.
This is what I like about my company. One of the first things we are told is that we are not allowed to unload freight unless there is absolutely no other option. Also, if we do end up somewhere that the receiver doesn't unload their freight, and doesn't have lumpers available, my company makes every effort to avoid that place.

The only exception is our paint loads, but on those loads, we have multiple drops, and tailgate all of the pallets. At 30 bucks a drop, and considering there are about 5-6 drops on the trailer, all dropped same day, it is worth it to sweat a little.

Now the fees are just NUTS! I would always unload my own freight and collect the money ($40-$75 per load) myself and it kept me a lot healthier and wealthier and didn't hurt one bit. Was it always a lot of giggles? No. Did it mean that the company made more off of the load? Sure.
Why should a "DRIVER" have to unload or pay someone to load or unload crap "they" sold or bought. And BTW, I ain't lazy. I was hired to drive.

Yeah its really quite pointless the charge is just added to the freight bill
of course one could always say that the shipper has already figured this out and found someone dum enough to haul it for that much less or raised the price of the goods enough to cover it. or they dont and find someone
The cycle of retardity never stops.
But one thing is for sure this is a way to get around from paying dockworkers medical etc.....
risk shifting
as some in the transportation area call it.

well the way i look at it is its not my frieght so why should i have to pay to unload it or why should i have to unload it myself? niether the driver nor the trucking compnay should ahve to pay to get someones frieght off there wagon. when i am at a place that requires lumpers i usually just pay with cash an then get reimbursed via comcheck from company. but lots of places i go to have an account set up with the shipper. most of those places im going to are P&G (procter & gamble) loads and usually they have a lumper company called WMSS unload it all i do is sign for it.

Lets rephrase the white boy saying:):)

This is the USA and years ago it was the ANGLO SAXON (sp) that wore the suit and tie, but as time goes by and history is written, the color crayon box is spreading.

Tip is wise behind the ears and I see that you are just the time of 19 yrs of life on earth, you will learn and learn with humor, that helps to when you run out of fuel
