I seen drivers delivering heavy scrap lpaper oads, and those big-### paper rolls were being live-loaded. Drivers had to wait in a staging area for their turn, some waited overnight. Only been there once, never want to go back.

Don't know about seeing any plywood. I didn't see any flatbeds.

GP deals in many varieties of pulp products. Paper Rolls absolutely suck, I remember those days. I hauled a load one day from a town in the WV mountains near Springfield, WV. The load was near 48000 and it was a slow ride out. Fortunately JB had a drop & hook set up there and I didn't have to wait. I just didn't feel comfortable then with the load. I love hauling plywood though. It is just as heavy, but the frame on the trailer steadies it some and I use plenty of straps, so no worries about it falling off.

I've hauled paper loads in vans for GP. As a general rule they suck. I've hauled from their resin plants with a tanker and they were pretty good about loading and unloading. Never pulled a flatbed so I can't tell you about them.

I haul van dedicated GP out of Crossett, AR. Mostly tissue and paper towels which average about 15000lbs going to Wal-Mart DC's in the southeast. Sometimes I haul large rolls of paper to other GP locations some are live unloads and some are drop and hooks. On backhauls I do scrap paper sometimes or pickup beverages going back to Dollar General in Indianola,MS. I actually enjoy the account. Sometimes they get behind in Crossett and you have to wait on loads but most of the time loads get ready early and you can get in and out in 30 minutes. Crossett is a very truck friendy city as well and they are building a new truck stop accross from the Walmart. I am in Crossett now and going to leave in the morning heading to Meridian, MS with a load. I get home once a week and get by the house once maybe twice during the week depending on my load. The good thing is I only live 60 miles from Crossett.

martman i was just there a few weeks ago.
as a general rule if youre going to be hauling gp, (or any other freight that the shippers will require it) get your own hardhat. i used theres, and have ring worm in perfect little splotches in the shape of the head band, to show for it.

thank god for lamisil.

Lamisil also good for what you get off the freakin shower floor in truckstops.

P.S.,
The WalMart(Equate) version of Lamisil AT works just as good, For almost $4.00 less.

For me, it has almost always been drop/hook paper loads. Sometimes light loads for finished products like paper towels, and sometimes heavy loads for paper rolls or scrap paper.

Usually a good shipper/reciever. Usually big places w/lots of room to move around. Sometimes there's a line waiting to get in/out or a jerk in the office, but overall, when I see I'm going to a GP facility, I've got no complaints.
yeah that about somes it up.
everytime i went to gp rincon
the loads always seem to go to nyc and the area and that sucked.
however most gp facilitys were and are d/h for most carriers
i will agree with another poster big island va sucks
glad i dont go to g/p anymore for no particular reason.

Yup I remember how that was. One Time this guy showed up at 3:30 pm, now granted he was late and was supossed to be there at 8:00 am when the gate opened. This was on a friday. Yep you guessed it they told he was f***** and had to wait till Monday. That was horrible for that guy, but he was there first in line Monday morning.
