Answer to the thread title: Yes. That 'cowboy' in the construction site mobile office in Newark, CA.
I tell him that Ive got a load of ceiling tile...and before I could finish my sentence, he says "Well congratulations!" Yeah, I wanted to use his face to slide my tandems. : /

I like the lyrics of that song, but I'd rather hear it to a country beat versus a rap beat.

Back on the original topic, I know I'm not alone in the frustration we drivers face from shippers and receivers. Then there's the traffic and the imbeciles that constantly seem to occupy those vehicles. I dare say that there is quite possibly no other career field out there in which professionals (as we are often called) are treated with so much disrespect. I realize that there are drivers out there who don't deserve to be called professional, but for those who strive everyday to maintain that image nothing can be more frustrating than to be treated like a complete idiot.

I was recently sitting at a local manufacturing facility. I had to wait in the guard shack while another driver from my company took my truck onto the property to do the work we were doing there. I hadn't taken that particular manufacturers contractor safety training and therefore had to sit there in the shack. While there I repeatedly heard complaints from the guards about how stupid drivers are and how obnoxious they are, etc., etc. After about the fifth time of hearing this from one female guard I finally let out a chuckle. She stopped talking and looked at me as if she forgot there was another driver within earshot. She immediately apologized and tried to recover by saying that not all drivers are stupid. I just smiled and said that I understood. I then asked her what she would do if there weren't any drivers in the world. She shrugged her shoulders and said that she would probably have an easier job with less stress. I let out a loud laugh and stepped outside to have a cigarette. When I came back in she asked what that laugh was all about. I told her that if it weren't for those drivers that she wouldn't even have a job let alone anything that she has in her home, including the home itself. I then informed her of how wrong it is of her to refer to drivers as stupid just because they'd never been to that facility before. To further put things in perspective for her, I asked her what the best route from Louisville, KY to L.A., CA is. She replied how she wouldn't be able to know without a map. I chuckled and said softly, "How stupid!"

Wouldn't have been less trouble to just unload it yourself?

  1. That would be a "no-go" due to insurance and labor restrictions.
  2. How many drivers are capable of operating a forklift safely?

Not to brag (I have had years of experience), But I can run just about any piece of equipment from forklifts to excavators but, that still doesn't give me permission or the authority to run someone else's equipment.

Sometimes getting loaded or unloaded eats up more time and you run late, Good thing all of the brokers I've gone through thus far have been cool, because I had the courtesy to call them and let them know the situation.

Same here Ron, most things with wheels and a steering wheel and many with out I can run. At least enough to get a load off my truck.
