| UPS Drivers, for Your SAFETY ??? Why are the UPS trucks ( Vans around town ) not equipped with "LOCKS" on the door latches ? ( Drivers and passenger sides ). The back doors can be locked. The other day I was looking out the front window and witnessed an ASSAULT take place on my UPS driver( 50 yards away from my front porch ), being there were no locks on her doors ( drivers and passenger side ) she could not protect herself . Of course, as this was taking place, I had dialed "911" as I flew out my door to her van, along with another person who pulled his truck over and came running down the road , towards the UPS van. By the time we got there , the Assailant, took off in her car, with the UPS drivers back pack and cell phone. She had left her residence and chased the UPS driver for a mile before running the van off into the ditch outside my front door. This Assailant, is 6'2" and 300 lbs ( built like a LINE BACKER , back in the late 70's for the Oakland Raiders ).............Had she gotten her hands on this UPS driver 5'5" and 130 lbs , I am not sure how or what I would have done to help her from getting beat to death. The Assailant had bloodied and tore her hands up trying to break into the van. The UPS driver had propped both her legs onto the dash of the van and had the lever of her drivers side door pulled back with all her strength................The Assailant, was ROCKING the van back and forth and running from door to door to break in......... Thank goodness she( UPS driver ) was not seriously hurt, and did press charges with the Dept Sherrif , the other witness and I were her biggest cheerleaders and said we would support her decision to go to court and that we will be their for her. There have been prior issues with this Assailant and when the Dept Sherrif went back to her home , it got western and he called for back up and they arrested her and she has 4 counts against her in court that evening in her orange jump suit.............she will appear for sentancing and is out on bail. On tv she had her tissue out and sobbing into the camera, that was not the person I saw earlier in the afternoon. A week later I ( and several of my aquaintances ) saw this same person at the local OTB and she had made a comment about a jockey and horse who did not win her money and said " A gun would take care of that,if I were there". She also had several thick glasses of double shots of some dark booze and looked kinda dangerous standing there , weaving back and forth , slurring her words.............she did not recognize me , phewwwwwww! I had told my friends where I had first seen her and what happened , they left immediately and I did not stay much longer.

The cargo areas internal doors inside of the driver compartment and the rear cargo doors automatically lock when closed. They are opened with a key. |

| This is the mark of what a good union can do to it's members. Yep, read that sentence again, it is what I meant to write. Since the company must pay union wages, they are not going to spend a penny on anything that is not either required by law, or union contract. Hence, no door locks, no air conditioning and no heaters. But by golly they DO get union payscale. Guess that makes up for not having any air conditioning in Las Vegas in the summer, or heaters in Reno in the winter. . . I'm not really that much anti-union. Just anti-union when the union is in bed with the company. . .

| good. don't believe it. they all have locks that are a real pita to use, and they end up rusting inside after about 6 months of disuse. the bulkhead and rear doors lock automagically, unless the drivers rig them for easy access. |

| Well I was told by one of their drivers they rebuild them so many times then crushed them.I have seen some newer models around.Hard to tell they all look a like.I used to see them flying around Houston doors open and no seatbelt.Maybe thats why they wear brown in case something happens you dont notice the poop. |

| Nice HB, gotta remember that one. Big Don, those trucks do have heaters, but they don't do much except keep the windows defogged. I learned this the hard way back in my Fed Ex Days. I used to drive with both doors open, in the summer, cause that damn truck is like an oven. Hell, I'd leave the passenger door open in the winter too, cause it can be a pain to keep opening and closing it all day (esp. if you are doing a lot of stops, like 150 or more). A lot of those UPS trucks have only a lapbelt (which is usu. brown, too), so it can look like the driver is not wearing a seatbelt; but for the ones who don't, they're asking for trouble. That assault is terrible. I remember a few years ago, a few thugs jumped an UPS driver and stole the truck, along with his uniform. The driver was tied up and stashed in the back; he undid his bonds and escaped by jumping out the back door, thankfully. Glad they caught that Bee-yotch and hopefully they put her away for a while.
