I hit this place early and with only 3/4 of a trailer load. They put me in a door very quickly - less than an hour!

In spite of the lumpers being the most expensive I've run into in my extensive 4 month career, they were far and away the slowest. it took them 6 hours using sophisticated machinery to get me unloaded and released.

Seeing what came off that truck, I have zero doubt I could have done it by hand in 3 hours. Given the use of the toys they had, it would have been done a lot sooner.

Part of the problem was that they'd pull a pallet off, split it up... and go pull a pallet from another truck.

Another problem was that they took a break every frelling hour

They were polite and all, but it took me standing inside where they could see me looking more and more disgusted to get them to finish up (last three pallets took about 15 minutes)

Fortunately, this was a broker load, so odds are against me going back

Just another day at the office, Lurch.
You'll see that again, --- maybe not at the same place.

Believe it or not, there ARE dock workers who band together and form a let's screw up the Big truck truck drivers ANY way we can --- attitude approach, and they do.

Draggin' their feet is ONE way --- usually used when a driver is paid by the mile.
But, on the flip side, those union drivers, who would LOVE to hit the jack-pot OVERtime machine --- they do the exact opposite, --
and git 'em out QUICK! So they can run another load that day, instead of sit around in a driver's/employee's lounge -- at time and a half, or $30+ an hour.

I heard this straight from a few lumper's mouths.
The union drivers affirmed it.

If I think they're draggin' their feet, I causally mention sumthin' like --- BoY-0-BoY!
This is a GREAT day to be paid on the clock!

Now, you didn't say YOU were on the clock --- but they'll hear it that way. But even if they're not sure, they'll tend to take the bait and git 'er done.
And I, being a nice guy -------> , I ACT disappointed that they unloaded me so quickly.
That way, IF I should return, they'll ALREADY be primed for a quickie.

Does that method ALWAYS work?
HaiL no.
But it's worth a try.
WhO knows?
And whatta ya got to lose?
I mean, some of them COULDN'T move ANY slower.
Ya reckon.

(Y'all would be amazed at how for forward y'all can go by using
REVERSE psychology.
I know
I know
that don't make no sense.
WhY do all that when it's easier to just get mad and make THEM mad(der)?
Hmmmmmmmmm ------
Well, ......... guess what I'm thinkin'?)
