| They're getting a cut of their own money back. If they didn't have a lumper fee, the shipper would possibly take it off the price, and it'd more than compensate for hiring the extra employees, as there'd be fewer taking a cut. |

| Do you have to provide a receipt for the lumper after you write that ComCheck? With many companies they treat the ComCheck like an advance, then a reimbursement when you turn in the receipt. I am curious how this works out for O/O's, though. Does your broker say you'll have a lumper charge? Is it added onto the total freight bill or is it just factored in as a higher CPM? If factored in and you can unload yourself, do you get to pocket the lumper fee? |

| i unload my own freight since i usually have 4-6 stops per load. i just make out a receipt for every stop. ill usually ask the lumpers first what they would charge me and just do it myself. most i have made on a load was around 800. when im done ill tell the broker how much i paid and get paid for it along with the rate. personally ive never been to a walmart or supervalu/savalot an had to pay before it was unloaded. i know there were a couple places but i cant remember what they were at the time. with walmarts if i have a 10 pallet or less load and i know its the beginning of a shift ill tell them ill break it down. most of the time they will do it for me. never been a company driver but im assuming you would just turn in a receipt so they know what you spent it on and didnt lie to them why you needed it.
