Dealt with that when I was young and foolish . Then I switched to hopper bottom then tankers . I haven't paid a lumper in over 15 years .

Myself, I have allways pulled flats and have never paid a lumper.

I belive I had a fred meyer load that was fay first too.

It is amazing they will load you most of the time for free but you have to pay to get it off.

If my memory serves, I always had to pay first if the dock used a lumper service. The only times that was not true was when the company I worked for had a standing arrangement with the dock.

Maybe this is a newbie question, but what the ##)(* am I being expected to pay for? I get paid to take a load from A to B, and now you're telling me I have to pay someone ELSE to unload it for me?????

It isn't out of your pocket . The carrier will reimburse you . If OOIDA was worth their membership fees this practice and unpaid detention time would have ended long ago .
