Shippers & Receivers - Good or Bad Load O' Freight That Just Can't Wait. Had a good or bad experience with a shipper or receiver? Discuss grocery warehouses, lumpers, and anything dealing with pickups or deliveries here. Does that shipper let you park and sleep? Does the receiver FORCE you to get a lumper?

This isn't a load refusal but recently some loaders refused to load my trailer because I had a spare tire in the front of the trailer. So I had to lug the tire into the cab of the truck so I could get it loaded. So stupid.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. They don't know where the tire has been and, in their eyes, it may potentially contaminate the product they are loading.

I had a bad tire to take back to the yard to prove that I had a bad tire. I strapped it to the back of the tractor. Bit easier to do with a headache rack though.

I almost had a load refused twice (union places) for not making an appointment ahead of time. I wanted to tell the guy "Do I look like a secretary?" but I find the blank thousand yard stare gets me unloaded faster.

They would point to a produce distributor across the street. The driver would go across the street, and sell the load for pennies on the dollar.

Thing of it is, the grocery company that first refused the load, owned the place across the street. Had some other weird name. They got in trouble for it, though. Somebody figured out their little game.
It is my understanding that they still play this game. My best friend pulls reefer for a small O/O and they run into this all the time.

Here is what they do:

Almost ALWAYS, these companies NEED the produce(they ordered it). Therefore, My friend and his boss simply find a nearby cold storage company and ask to rent temporary space under the consignee's name. All very legal as it IS the consignee's produce. This effectively adds another middleman that the consignee MUST pay to get their produce and seems to be very effective in deterring future BS.

Load of Pineapples into Florida for Safeway I think, they refused one pallet said they were over ripe!

While we were sorting it out the company took us of the pre-set we had and we had to dead head back to Atlanta.

had a beverage distributor refuse the equivalent of 2 pallets of beer and wine from a mixed load because there were some broken bottle and the other boxes were ruined and weak and could not be reused. Hualed it back to the office, we unloaded it and left it sit there. After 4 weeks, the broker called and said to throw it out, neither the shipper or the receiver wanted it. I took home 2 cases of Corona, a case of Tecate, and 3 cases of Kendall Jackson Private Reserve.

Another time, we had 4 container loads of Fiji water come in, 22 pallets per container, two stops per container at Costco stores. Each store was supposed to only get 10 pallets, they each refused the extra. So we hauled it to the office, they unloaded them, we ended up 8 pallets of bottled water, after 3 weeks the broker told us to dispose of it. It took us 3 weeks, but us drivers all hauled that water home in our cars.

I had a couple boxes of Pillsbury Bisquits refused because a couple of of the boxes weren't stacked right and it fell a couple the rolls had busted open. One in each box, unforuntaley I didn't have a cooler then and I donated them to the Trailer Wash team. Needless to say the trailer I was pulling got a real good clean out. I also had a load of A/B going to Morgantown W.V. and my load locks gave out and 1 or 2 cases were refused because of falling. The Beer Disturburtor told me that happened a lot.
