Hunts Point isnt that bad...

Just make sure you get decent directions..absolutely essential..

If your cominfg off the GWB , just follow the signs , it 'll take you right there.

I"ve been there quite a few times, and never had a problem..

I ve spent the night there too,also uneventfull.

I also use mapquest or google to double check,I have had one problem with mapquest ,it showed this place in mn,and I ended up on the right road but thru a residential area with trucks allowed 2 miles away,but really no problem. Sometimes you need common sense like following the truck routes but they are ussually right on.

Sounds like getting around in NYC is much easier than what I can remember. I honestly don't recall having signs leading me into Hunts Point Market. Then again, didn't have things called mapquest, google, or even internet for that matter. My last trip in was in 1994, so I am sure much has changed.

All I seem to remember is signs that were spray painted over, and coming up to exits that I was supposed to take, only to find out the exit was closed. Nothing worse that coming up to your exit only to realize you can't take it.

I think the last time I was at Hunts point was 1991, I recall my first trip into NYC, I had just fiinshed school, had about 4wks under my belt and the company asked me if I would do a pickup on a Friday at noon time out on Long Island. Being young and dumb, i said yeah. Big mistake. I got stuck on one of the bridges going out, when I picked up my trailer it had in it, 1 desk, an office chair, and a set of golf clubs. Yes it was a 48ft. I pulled out dropped my "full" trailer and backed the other one in to the dock. Re-hooked and lost the cotter pin for the landing gear. One he## of a storm brewing that day to, I got the landing gear up with about 20min to spare before one of the worst rainstorms I ever had seen hit.

I headed for Chi town to the delivery point, found it and went to bed. Woke up the next morning in a casket factory!!!!!!!

NYC isn't bad, Try Boston sometime, I've been through every city street imaginable in Boston and the surrounding communities-all with a Int 9200 with a 230in wheelbase 54inch bunk and a 48ft trailer. At least NYC is more of a grid lay out.

NYC wasn't bad for me all the time, but I definitely had my bad times there, posted about a nasty situation I dealt with there once, felt lucky to leave alive.

Other than that, the time I mentioned above, seeing my exit closed was my other horrible encounter. After not being able to make my exit, my life was in the hands of the thousands of drivers on the CB, all talking at once. luckily, I hooked up with another driver going to the same place I was headed and followed him. I was lucky because I was loaded heavy and was able to go under the same bridges he was squeezing under. The truck that followed me wasn't so lucky, and ended up stuck under a bridge.

If you got good directions, and don't hit unexpected construction, it isn't that bad. Traffic is a mess, it can get dangerous if you end up somewhere your are not supposed to be, but for the most part, it is more hectic than anything else.

That said, I will avoid it whenever possible

Well sounds like they have cleaned it up a bunch since the last time i was there. Back then in 19-- it was the pits. Hookerws and druggys every where no fence and no real eating places. But i used to park there over night all the time when i delivered meat to the market every week. But like one of the other guys i had a pistol and a big dog (Pit Bull) so never got bothered to much. THey figure if your as crazy as they are they leave you alone at least thats what they told me. The locals used to come by and see if i was there and we would visit every once in a while but they never bothered me. Any way that was years ago and they used to close it down for like 2 hours a day to clean the docks with a front end loader with all the trash that would accumulate over a 22 hour period. It was the worst place to deliver. And i lost more meat gettting in there than any other place they had an elcamino that would run faster backing up than most cars going forward thay run behind you and unload your truck while you were going down the street. I lost more than a few boxes of beef to that car.

ROOSEVELT PAPER, New Jersey. Arrive at noon, got out at 2AM (14 Hours later) and told it had to be in Pittsburgh, PA by 8AM. I laughed.

Hunts Point isn't a big deal at all...It does tend to frighten some of those "rural" types though..

I used to deliver there all the time..You have to pay $25.00 to get on the grounds of the Co-Op.There are NO lot lizards on the grounds, the surrounding neighborhood is a war zone(what hasn't been burned to the ground.)but the grounds of the Co-Op are fine..
Make sure you have your directions beforehand, you can forget trying to get local directions in NYC, with all the radio traffic, badda boeys, and Puerto Rican music on channel19..

To tell you the truth though,I always went there the same way all the time and the route is pretty clearly marked..

It's not that bad..It's mostly just "truckers" hype..
