Yes that is a little fib and the divorce thing might not be a nice thing to do, but at least you can still be with her and she gets the benefits. You could file bankruptcy on this later on!
Well, my wife has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. We kind of suspected that. That means she's eligible for SSI and medicaid. Fortunately her boss at Pizza Hut didn't fire her though she's been reduced to PT hours to reduce stress. She's going to go to a group home that specializes in treating people with BPD and monitoring how they respond to medication, much better than only a weekly visit as she had been doing. We had a long talk. I do love her dearly and despite all the problems we still want to be together but it's financially better for both of us to legally split up for the time being. We called it our "divorce of convenience". Essentially we'll go back to dating. I don't plan on seeing anyone else and I don't think she does either. She's able to get the help she needs and I get a huge financial burden lifted from me. I will be assuming the debts we've incurred but my stepdad and mom will loan me the money to pay them off and I'll be able to pay it back interest free.

Currently she is residing with a friend who is on state help who has been very helpful in pointing my wife in the right direction on who to talk to and where to go. I'm going to buy her a bus pass so she can get around town when I can't give her a ride. I think it's going to work out. It's going to be a long road but I think we're finally on the right path for her recovery.

I need to take her by her former employer from last year to get her W-2 so we can take care of her taxes.

Glad to hear things are slowly working out. It won't be easy, but with friends to carry you along the way, it will lighten the load a bit!!!!!!!! Remember we're part of the "same family"

Just to update you all, we had our final divorce hearing this morning. It went smoothly (good for both of us). NM is a no-fault state and our divorce was granted on the grounds of "incompatibility". We weren't the only couple who showed up together to get a civil divorce. One was an obvious May-December romance (he had to be in his mid 40's, she in her 20's). Afterwards we went out to IHOP (my treat).

We both agreed that you REALLY, REALLY have to love the legal system to work there full time. I mean the repetition, the judge having to say the same things over and over.

At any rate, I think it was the best decision for both of us and she can now get the help she needs to get better.

You know that drug use is a disease. I would be willing to bet that if she gets sober most of her mental problems will go away. I have seen this happen many many times.

Best of luck to you, I hope everything works out.
