Snowman (Jerry Reed)

While not exactly a "True Trucker", He is the embodiment of truckers all over. It's with great sadness that I share the news that Mr. Jerry Reed has left us for that Truckstop in the sky.

I urge everyone to give a tribute to this wonderful man who was much more like you than you can possible imagine. He was always kind and never treated anyone he met anything less than like a friend he had known all his life. He was just a common Joe who happend to get a little lucky with singing, song writing, and some acting. He never forgot who he was and where he came from.

So, Here's to you Snowman keep the pedel to the metal for the gates above are open and the roads are clear of bears, that's a big 10-4...

Well, I'm "Eastbound and Down", so I'll just have to crank it up a little in honour of the Snowman (besides, I'm in Nevada so I can get away with it )

RIP Jerry

I have a personal Jerry Reed story. About 10 years ago I was working at a golf course here in Nashville (dont even ask). Part of my job was to ride around the course and make sure folks were keeping the carts away from the greens and keep things moving along.
I saw a cart directly behind a green, somewhere it should not have been and there was a single occupant in it. So I headed for it to ask the offender to move it away from the precious green. He had sunglasses on and his hat kind of pulled down and there was no way to recognize him.
He says......'ah man, I cant believe I am getting busted by a bear on a golf course' and he laughs good naturedly.
As you all know he has a very distinctive voice.
I said.........'uh, is that you? are you uh ......?' and i get kind of tongue tied.
He says 'yeah, its me and please dont tell my momma you busted me' and we both laugh ...........I say 'man I have seen all your movies and loved them' and he says in all seriousness ' well, thank you kindly'
RIP Jerry.

I liked Jerry Reed!

"About forty-five minutes southeast of Thibodeaux, Louisiana
Lived a man called Doc Milsap and his pretty wife Hanna.
Well, they raised up a son who could eat up his weight in groceries.
Named him after a man of the cloth,
Called him Amos Moses."

Wow. I hadn't heard this news at all until now. What a shame. A gifted guitarist, songwriter and a, well, a hero to me.

I've got just about all of his songs on MP3. The very first album (vinyl 33) was the soundtrack to Smokey and the Bandit. Mr. Reed's portrayal of Cletus "Snowman" Snow remains to this day the one trucker other than my dad that made me wanna drive the highways of America and his songs can still bring a smile to my face.

Somebody stop that bird!!

God's speed Mr. Reed. Now you're the one whose got the gold mine!

He died on Saturday, but his family did not say anything until today. They wanted privacy until he was buried.

Just last weekend I think it was I was listening to a radio show spotlighting him. He was one that I would have like to have met.
